Groundwater Environmental Management Services (GEMS) was founded in 2005 to meet the growing demand for a practical, real-world approach to the increasingly complex environmental regulatory and compliance challenges faced by the construction and land development industry. Since then, regulations have only become more stringent, environmental obligations more demanding, and owner requirements more detailed, making environmental compliance a critical factor that can impact project budgets, timelines, and success.

We are hiring an Estimator to join the Sales and Marketing Team in our Concord office. The Estimator is responsible for supporting the growth and profitability of GEMS by developing accurate, competitive, and profitable estimates for environmental services. This role reviews contract documents, technical reports, and project requirements to determine scopes of work, prepare detailed take-offs, obtain subcontractor and vendor pricing, and develop proposals in collaboration with Client Services, Operations, Sales & Marketing, and other internal leaders.

Responsibilities

- Perform all functions of an Estimator in the costing of GEMS environmental services to potential customers.
- Review contract documents and technical reports defining scope of work and preparing take-offs for pricing in consultation with the leaders (Client Services, Operations, Sales & Marketing).
- Search and gather first-hand information from websites and procurement platforms for upcoming projects.
- Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors




- Track all open opportunities for all GEMS services and follow-up on submitted bids and proposals
- Follow up on submitted proposals and negotiate to convert open opportunities to awarded contracts.
- Work collaboratively with and support Project Managers to deliver project scopes of work and monitor costs.
- Always Work with expected profit margin in mind.
- Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)
- Maintain open communications with customers including after-hours.
- Evening, weekends (on call) and travel are a component of this position as required to meet customer demands and due dates.
- Foster and participate in a Health & Safety culture.
- Maintain training, qualifications and professional designation(s), as required.
- Any other reasonable activity required by management/leadership.

Skills and Abilities:

- Post-Secondary diploma or degree.
- Work experience in estimating, construction and/or environmental services.
- Strong oral and written communication, strong analytical abilities, interpersonal, customer service, negotiating, organizational, computer and time-management skills.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license.
- Ability to coordinate and work independently.
- Physically capable of handling exposure to outdoor weather, shop and job site conditions.
- Thoroughness and reliability.
