The Skilled Carpenter is a crucial hands-on role responsible for executing high-quality framing, structural, and detailed finishing work on residential construction sites. This position sits above general carpenters and labourers, acting as the go-to expert for complex tasks requiring technical precision and problem-solving. Reporting to the Site Foreman, the Skilled Carpenter is expected to work independently, read plans, and deliver craftsmanship that exceeds expectations—all without needing to run the entire crew.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Execute advanced carpentry tasks including framing, joists, rafters, stair construction, window/door installs, and high-detail finish work
- Accurately read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and layout plans
- Operate power tools, equipment, and materials safely and with a high degree of skill
- Solve on-site build issues with minimal supervision and suggest technical improvements
- Collaborate with Foreman and Project Coordinator to ensure job flow aligns with schedule
- Mentor junior carpenters and general labourers when needed
- Maintain quality control over completed work and ensure it meets project standards
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with all safety regulations
- Report material needs, tool issues,
or site concerns to the Site Foreman promptly

- Take full ownership of assigned carpentry tasks and execute with pride
- Maintain a professional, “no excuses” attitude on job sites
- Demonstrate precision, cleanliness, and a strong sense of build quality
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with the site team
- Follow all site safety procedures without shortcuts
- Show reliability in attendance, punctuality, and task completion
Qualifications:
- Journeyperson certification or Red Seal preferred, or equivalent 5+ years verifiable
- experience in residential carpentry
- Strong understanding of framing systems, building codes, and wood construction best practices
- Ability to read and build from blueprints with minimal guidance
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing ladders, and working in energetic site environments
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
- Comfortable with heights, scaffolding, and working outdoors in all conditions
Pay: $26.00-$32.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
