About Prairie Gateway Rail
Prairie Gateway Rail Ltd. (PGR) is a Manitoba-based rail services company providing industrial rail and track services to rail-served facilities, municipalities, short lines, and infrastructure projects.
As our operations continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Trackmobile Operator / Track Maintainer to join our team.
This is a multi-faceted field position combining industrial railcar switching and railway track maintenance. It is an opportunity for an experienced rail professional to apply a broad range of skills across different customers, facilities, and projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate Trackmobile equipment for industrial railcar switching and positioning.
- Couple, uncouple, secure, and move railcars in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Perform railway track maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation.
- Remove and install ties, spikes, anchors, plates, and other track materials.
- Assist with track lifting, lining, gauging, surfacing, and tamping.
- Perform ballast placement and distribution.
- Assist with turnout and switch maintenance.
- Operate railway hand tools, hydraulic tools, track jacks, and other maintenance equipment.
- Identify and report track, equipment, and operational safety concerns.
- Complete required operating, inspection, and safety documentation.
- Maintain a safe and organized worksite.
- Work effectively with PGR supervisors, customers, contractors, and railway personnel.
- Support other railway and field activities as operational requirements dictate.
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous Trackmobile or comparable railcar mover operating experience.
- Previous railway track maintenance or construction experience.
- Knowledge of industrial railway switching and safe railcar handling practices.
- Experience working with railway track tools and materials.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow established operating procedures.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a field crew.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and changing schedules when operational requirements dictate.
Considered an Asset:
- CROR or industrial railway operating qualifications.
- Track inspection experience.
- Experience operating tampers, regulators, loaders, backhoes, or other railway/heavy equipment.
- Experience working within industrial facilities or Class I railway environments.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- WHMIS and other applicable railway or construction safety training.
- Welding Experience
- TIGS Certification
Compensation $28.00–$32.00 per hour, based on demonstrated railway experience, qualifications, certifications, and equipment operating capabilities.
Overtime and additional compensation will apply where applicable.
