Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) has a Family Court Support Advocate (FCSA) position available immediately for our Assisting Survivors of Gender-Based Violence Project. This is a full-time contract position until March 2031, with the possibility of extension pending the availability of funding for this position. The staff FCSA will provide advocacy and support to survivors of gender-based violence navigating the family court system.

The FCSA will be part of our team and will engage in our program activities including case work, public and continuing legal education, law reform and community development.

LAW is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. LAW’s mission integrates legal and social work expertise in partnership to support clients, community and future sector leaders, engaging in systemic advocacy for a more equitable social justice system. As an interdisciplinary clinic, legal and social work professions work collaboratively to meet the multi-faceted needs of the low-income community in Windsor and Essex County. This project is funded by the Department of Justice.

The expansion of our interdisciplinary service delivery model by adding a specialized FCSA will allow us to support clients to:

· Access services that move through the system with survivors and throughout each stage as needed

· Accompany individuals to family court and assist them to better understand and recognize their rights during the process

· Develop increased understanding of the family court system to better navigate and determine the most appropriate process





· Access services and act as a “bridge or liaison” for those attempting to navigate both the family, criminal justice and child welfare systems while ensuring better coordination of conditions and/or other requirements

· Advocate to ensure “adjacent” legal needs are met related to the family justice system ie. advocacy and navigation with the Family Responsibility Office, Social benefits and Canada Tax Benefit The successful candidate will be a registered social worker or have comparable experience of 3 or more years. They will have experience identifying risk and supporting the needs of individuals experiencing gender-based violence navigating the family court system. They will have knowledge of community resources and the ability to establish service delivery protocols.

They will have a collaborative approach to social work and strong interpersonal skills. A robust interest in social justice and community development is required. An understanding of the intersectional relationship of gender identity, gender expression, violence, poverty, disability, and race is required.

The annual salary will be commensurate with experience, starting at $70,000.
