Hands-On Finance Leadership With a Seat at the Table

We're partnering confidentially with an established and growing Canadian manufacturing organization seeking a sharp, hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of its accounting and finance function. This is not a Controller position where you'll simply review reports prepared by a large accounting department.

We're looking for someone equally comfortable getting into the numbers and advising executive leadership.

One day you may be overseeing month-end close, reconciliations, cash flow, or transactional accounting. The next, you could be building a financial model for an acquisition, analyzing operating performance, or helping leadership make a major investment decision.

For someone who enjoys combining hands-on accounting with strategic finance, this is an opportunity to have meaningful influence on a growing business.

What You'll Own

Accounting & Financial Controls

- Own the full-cycle accounting function across the Canadian operation
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare accurate financial statements and management reporting
- Maintain strong financial controls and accounting processes
- Coordinate annual tax filings, regulatory requirements, and external accounting relationships

Financial Planning & Analysis

- Develop and maintain weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting
- Prepare monthly variance analysis and communicate findings to executive leadership
- Analyze financial and operational performance to identify trends and opportunities

- Identify opportunities for cost containment, waste reduction, and improved operating efficiency

Canada / US Finance

- Support financial activities across Canadian and US operations
- Manage USD/CAD transactions and multi-currency reconciliations
- Support intercompany accounting and cross-border financial requirements
- Help leadership strengthen financial processes as the organization continues to expand

Acquisitions & Growth

You'll also have exposure to an important area of the company's growth strategy.
- Support financial due diligence for potential acquisitions
- Analyze financial information and acquisition targets
- Build financial models around working capital, integration costs, and future performance
- Support leadership in evaluating financing structures
- Assist with lender relationships and financial requirements surrounding expansion

What We're Looking For

- 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Strong hands-on full-cycle accounting experience
- Experience with financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities
- Strong ERP/accounting systems experience
- Ability to translate financial information into practical business recommendations
- Robust attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working directly with senior leadership

Highly Valued

- CPA designation or equivalent advanced accounting experience
- Manufacturing, supply chain, industrial, or SME experience
- Canada/US cross-border accounting exposure
- Multi-currency accounting experience
- Multi-location business experience
- Acquisition, due diligence, or M&A; exposure
- Experience supporting a growing privately held organization

The Person We're Looking For

This position requires someone with a genuine "no task too small" mentality. You'll thrive here if you can:

- Move comfortably between transactional and strategic finance
- Work independently without needing a large finance team around you
- Challenge numbers and investigate discrepancies
- Build processes rather than simply inherit them
- Communicate effectively with operational and executive stakeholders
- Manage competing priorities in a rapid-moving business
- Think commercially while maintaining strong accounting discipline

Why Consider This Opportunity?

- Direct exposure to executive leadership
- Significant ownership of the finance function
- Opportunity to influence major business decisions
- Exposure to acquisitions and North American expansion
- Flat organizational structure with meaningful autonomy
- Growing Canadian manufacturing environment
- Competitive base salary and performance incentives
- Comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, vision, life insurance, and employee assistance
- On-site fitness facility

Apply

If you're a hands-on finance professional who wants more ownership, executive exposure, and the opportunity to help shape the financial direction of a growing organization, we'd welcome a confidential conversation. All applications and conversations will be handled discreetly.
