Posse Trucking

Surrey

Position Summary

Posse Trucking runs an open-deck fleet — flatbeds, step decks, double drops and RGNs — moving oversize and heavy freight across BC, Western Canada and cross-border. This role owns the mechanical condition of that trailer fleet from end to end.

You are the shop. You decide what gets fixed in-house and what goes out, you keep every unit legal and inspection-ready, you run preventative maintenance on a schedule instead of waiting for breakdowns, and you manage the maintenance spend against a monthly budget.

This is not a wrench-turning position only. It carries real accountability for fleet uptime, regulatory compliance and cost control.

Core Responsibilities

1. Trailer Repair & Maintenance (primary focus)

- Diagnose and repair open-deck trailers: flatbeds, step decks, low-pro step decks, double drops, RGNs and expandables
- Air brake systems: drums and rotors, S-cams, slack adjusters, chambers, valves, air lines and gladhands
- Suspension and running gear: air ride and spring suspensions, torque arms, bushings, hangers, slider boxes, axles, wheel ends, hub and bearing service, seals
- Electrical: 7-way harnesses, LED conversions, ABS faults, trailer lighting, wiring repair and rewires
- Structural and deck work: crossmembers, main beams, apitong/hardwood and steel deck repair, headboards, bulkheads, stake pockets, winch tracks, D-rings
- Welding and fabrication: MIG and stick to a structural standard; aluminum an asset
- Hydraulics: RGN detachable necks, trombone extensions, hydraulic tail and ramp systems, cylinders, hoses, pumps
- Kingpins, upper couplers, landing gear, tires, rims, mudflaps, tarp systems, chain and binder inventory

1. Truck-Side Mechanical Support (non-engine)

- Brakes, wheel ends, hub service, suspension and steering components
- Air systems, valves, lines, dryers
- Fifth wheels: inspection, adjustment, rebuild, replacement
- Lighting and electrical faults, batteries, charging system checks
- Driveline, U-joints, hangers, exhaust and mounting hardware
- Routine PM servicing and fluid changes

- Triage on engine and aftertreatment issues — diagnose, then coordinate the dealer or specialty vendor

1. CVIP / NSC Compliance

- Maintain the master inspection calendar for every trailer and truck in the fleet; no unit ever runs on an expired CVIP decal
- Provide 30/60-day advance notice of upcoming expiries and schedule inspections so units are pre-repaired, not failed
- Prepare units for inspection: pre-inspect, correct defects in advance, verify decal and paperwork on the unit
- Maintain NSC Standard maintenance records — repair orders, PM history, inspection reports, defect reports — organized and audit-ready for a CVSE facility audit
- Review driver pre-trip and post-trip defect reports daily; close out defects and document the corrective action
- Track and reduce roadside out-of-service rates; investigate every CVSE roadside violation and correct the root cause

1. Preventative Maintenance Program

- Build and run a scheduled PM program by unit — interval-based on mileage, hours or calendar as appropriate to the asset
- Full greasing, torque checks, brake stroke measurement, tire depth and pressure logging, fluid analysis where applicable
- Maintain per-unit service history and identify repeat-failure units for repair-versus-replace decisions
- Seasonal readiness: winter prep, tire rotation and replacement planning, tarp and securement equipment audits

1. Budget, Parts & Vendor Management

- Operate within an assigned monthly maintenance budget and report variance
- Source parts competitively; maintain a working relationship with suppliers and negotiate fleet pricing
- Manage shop inventory of consumables and common wear parts to avoid downtime waiting on parts

- Pursue warranty claims on components and new equipment
- Decide in-house versus outsourced work on a cost and downtime basis, and justify the call
- Track cost per unit and cost per kilometre; flag units where maintenance cost signals disposal

1. Yard & Facility

- General yard upkeep and repairs — shop equipment, tooling, lighting, gates, fencing, small welding and fabrication jobs
- Keep the shop organized, stocked, clean and protected
- Support drivers with quick-turn fixes to keep loads moving

1. Safety

- Work in compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and Posse's safety program
- Lockout/tagout, confined space awareness, fall protection where applicable, proper cribbing and jack stand practice
- Report hazards, incidents and near-misses; participate in safety meetings

Skills

- Extensive dealership or heavy equipment repair experience with a focus on trailers, and trucks.
- Strong mechanical knowledge complemented by electrical experience for troubleshooting complex systems.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and technical manuals for industrial equipment.
- Skilled in welding, fabrication, and use of power tools for repairs and assembly tasks.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Experience operating heavy machinery such as excavators or cranes is highly desirable.
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.

This role demands a proactive leader with a passion for maintaining high standards of safety and operational efficiency. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where your technical skills make a tangible impact every day—this is the perfect opportunity for you! Class 1 Drivers License is a bonus but not required. Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
