Summary The FSQA (Food Safety and Quality Assurance) Program Specialist will be reporting the QA Program Lead and is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of the HACCP and BRCGS food safety management systems at the assigned facility. This position ensures regulatory compliance, promotes a strong food safety culture, and drives continuous audit readiness through proactive system management and cross-functional collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities HACCP & Food Safety System Management
- Lead and support the HACCP and Food Safety Teams to ensure the effective maintenance of the HACCP and BRCGS programs.
- Oversee hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures across all stages of raw material intake and food production, ensuring alignment with the HACCP Plan (Forms 5–9).
- Maintain and update HACCP, BRCGS, and prerequisite programs through regular review, monitoring, verification, and validation activities.
- Ensure the assigned site is in compliance with all applicable food safety regulations and standards, including CFIA, Health Canada, USDA, FDA, and BRCGS requirements.
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and records based on HACCP reassessments, product or process changes, and equipment modifications.
- Manage document control processes, ensuring all QA,
Sanitation, and Maintenance records are accurately maintained and uploaded to the Black Box system.
- Conduct weekly verification of QA, sanitation, shipping, receiving, maintenance, and production records, reporting compliance status to senior QA and Compliance leadership.
Audit & Inspection Readiness
- Schedule and lead Food Safety and HACCP meetings; distribute meeting minutes and track action item completion.
- Support the QA Program Lead to prepare the site for internal and external audits, including BRCGS, customer, CFIA, and other regulatory inspections.
- Assist with timely closure of corrective actions and non-conformances from audits, inspections, or internal reviews.
- Lead and document weekly and monthly self-inspections; collaborate with cross-functional teams to address deviations and promote continuous improvement.
Training & Compliance
- Conduct annual and new employee training on Critical Control Point (CCP) monitoring, HACCP requirements, and relevant food safety protocols.
- Stay current with changes to food safety laws, regulations, and industry standards, communicating updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Foster a hygienic, compliant, and positive working environment that aligns with company policies and food safety standards.
Other Responsibilities
- Occasional travel to other facilities may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the QA Program Leader.
Required Skills & Experience:
Education:
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Food Safety, or a related discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum 1–3 years of quality assurance experience in food manufacturing, with a focus on HACCP and BRCGS programs.
- Proven track record in developing, implementing, and maintaining food safety management systems.
- Experience in audit preparation, document control, and corrective action management.
Certifications & Skills:
- Certified training in HACCP and BRCGS/SQF Food Standard (Certification required).
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations (CFIA, FDA, USDA, BRCGS).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and electronic document management systems.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced workplace.
Other Requirements
- Flexibility to work across multiple facilities or bakery locations.
- Must have a valid driver license (G2/G) and has access to a car
