Position Overview The Foreman - Shallow Utility Construction is responsible for leading field crews and coordinating daily site operations related to natural gas distribution and underground utility installations.
This role requires a strong leader who can effectively manage crews, maintain safe and productive worksites, and ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to company and client standards.
The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in shallow utility construction, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead by example.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily site activities related to natural gas distribution and underground utility construction
- Lead and manage field crews while promoting a positive and productive work environment
- Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with drawings, specifications, and company standards
- Interpret construction drawings, utility plans, and project specifications
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet project requirements
- Conduct daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and site inspections
- Monitor project progress, production targets, quality control, and schedule adherence
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Inspectors, Engineers, Utility Representatives, and Clients
- Complete and maintain daily reports, timesheets, field documentation, and production records
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards
- Mentor, train, and develop crew members
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture at all times
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of Shallow Utility Construction experience
- Minimum 2 years of Foreman or supervisory experience
- Extensive experience in Natural Gas Distribution construction
- Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading,
underground utility installation, and restoration practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean and insurable driving record
- Successful completion of a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol test
Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following:
- Ground Disturbance Level II Supervisor (In-Class)
- Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE)
- CSTS 2020
- Standard First Aid
- WHMIS
- Confined Space Entry
- ATCO Gas project experience
- Experience operating construction equipment
- Experience leading utility crews on municipal and private infrastructure projects
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual earning potential of $95,000 - $130,000+

Work Schedule
- Typical construction season schedules range from 50 to 60 hours per week
- Monday to Saturday work schedules are common during peak construction periods
- Overtime opportunities available throughout the construction season
- Some out-of-town work may be required
