We are looking for a Full-Stack Developer (Rust & WebAssembly) to join our engineering team and contribute to the development of up-to-date, secure, scalable software applications and platforms.
The successful candidate will work across the frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure layers, with Rust serving as an important technology across both backend services and selected frontend components through WebAssembly (WASM).
This is an opportunity for a developer who enjoys working across the entire technology stack and is interested in building software where performance, security, reliability, and maintainability are important.
The candidate will work closely with our engineering team to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production-quality software.
You do not need to be a cryptography or QKD expert. Familiarity with these technologies is an asset, but the primary focus of this role is full-stack software development and integration.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack applications and services.
- Develop backend services and APIs primarily using Rust.
- Develop selected frontend components using Rust and WebAssembly (WASM) where performance, security, or computational efficiency provides a meaningful advantage.
- Develop modern web interfaces using TypeScript/JavaScript and appropriate frontend frameworks.
- Integrate Rust/WASM components with modern web applications.
- Design and implement RESTful and/or real-time APIs.
- Design database schemas, queries, migrations, and data-access layers.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend services and APIs.
- Develop authentication, authorization, session management, and other security-related functionality.
- Build reusable, modular, and maintainable software components.
- Write clean, well-structured, documented, and testable code.
- Develop unit, integration, end-to-end, interoperability, and performance tests.
- Diagnose and resolve software, database, networking, and deployment issues.
- Participate in software architecture and technical design decisions.
- Contribute to code reviews and establish strong engineering practices.
- Work with DevOps and infrastructure components to deploy and operate applications.
- Monitor application performance, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with backend, systems, cryptography, networking, and infrastructure engineers.
- Work with existing systems as well as develop new applications and services from the ground up.
Programming Requirements
- Rust: strong professional experience developing production software, preferably including backend, systems, networking, or security-sensitive applications.
- TypeScript/JavaScript: strong experience with modern web application development.
- HTML5/CSS3: strong understanding of contemporary web standards and responsive interfaces.
- SQL: strong understanding of relational databases and database design.
- Python: experience with scripting, automation, testing, or tooling.
- Bash/Linux shell scripting.

The candidate should have experience with:
- Responsive web application development
- Component-based application architecture
- State management
- API integration
- Form handling and validation
- Browser security
- Accessibility
- Frontend performance optimization
- Cross-browser compatibility
- Modern frontend build and deployment tools
Rust & WebAssembly A key aspect of this role is the ability to use Rust in the frontend where appropriate. The candidate should ideally have experience:
- Developing Rust applications that compile to WebAssembly
- Designing frontend components that use Rust/WASM for computationally intensive or security-sensitive functionality
- Integrating Rust/WASM modules with TypeScript/JavaScript applications
- Managing communication between WASM modules and browser-based application code
- Understanding the performance and security characteristics of WebAssembly
- Determining when Rust/WASM provides a meaningful advantage over conventional JavaScript/TypeScript implementations
The expectation is not that the entire frontend will be written in Rust. The successful candidate should be able to choose the appropriate technology for each component while maintaining a coherent architecture.
Backend Development
Strong experience with backend and server-side development, including:
- Rust-based web services and APIs
- REST APIs and/or other service architectures
- Asynchronous and concurrent programming
- Authentication and authorization
- Session management
- Input validation and secure error handling
- Service-to-service communication
- Background jobs and asynchronous processing
- Logging, monitoring, and observability
- Performance optimization and profiling
Experience with Rust frameworks such as Axum, Actix Web, Rocket, or equivalent is an asset. APIs & Integration
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
- Understanding of JSON and other data serialization formats
- Experience with WebSockets or other real-time communication technologies
- Experience with API authentication and authorization
- Understanding of API versioning and backward compatibility
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and services
- Experience designing interfaces between distributed software components
Security Security is an important part of this role. The candidate should have a good understanding of:
- Secure software development practices
- Authentication and authorization
- Secure API design
- Session and credential management
- Secrets management
- Input validation and sanitization
- Encryption in transit and at rest
- Common web application vulnerabilities
- OWASP principles and security practices
- Dependency and vulnerability management
- Secure handling of sensitive information

- Strong experience working with Linux
- Understanding of processes, threads, concurrency, and system resources
- Experience troubleshooting applications at the operating-system level
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking
- Familiarity with DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, TCP, UDP, and sockets
- Experience with Linux command-line tools
- Experience with system monitoring and troubleshooting
- Understanding of containerized environments

- Strong understanding of version control and collaborative development
- Experience performing code reviews
- Experience writing automated tests
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum or similar development methodologies
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with existing codebases as well as develop new systems from the ground up
- Ability to evaluate technical trade-offs between performance, security, maintainability, and development complexity
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated experience across both frontend and backend development
- Demonstrated professional experience with Rust
- Demonstrated experience developing and deploying production web applications
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks and TypeScript/JavaScript
