Role and Objectives:

The Glulam Lead Hand, under the direction of the Glulam Supervisor, is responsible for leading the daily activities of the Glulam staff and assisting in the resolution of material defects, equipment problems, project/program changes and material flow. The position requires the performance of several tasks including cleaning and preparing work centers, operating various finishing equipment, ensuring QA compliance, data entry for shift reporting, leave coverage, etc. The candidate must be capable of ensuring effective communication with all other team members and working collaboratively with QA technicians to maximize the protected fabrication of quality products.

Responsibilities:

- Under the direction of the Glulam Supervisor (and in their absence), lead daily activities of operations staff, providing informal coaching, guidance, and on-the-job training
- Monitor job progress, ensure work is completed on schedule and report progress and updates to management regularly
- Assist in the resolution of material defects and equipment issues to maintain production flow
- Ensure efficient use of labour, materials,



tools, and machinery to support operational productivity
- Work collaboratively with team members to complete fabrication tasks and support production goals
- Assist with the safe and effective movement of beams and materials throughout the shop
- Read and interpret fabrication plans, shop drawings, blueprints, and specifications to guide workflow and maintain accuracy
- Support high workmanship standards through strong attention to detail, adherence to fabrication requirements, and quality checks
- Perform data entry related to shift reporting, downtime, and production tracking
- Apply technical knowledge of mass timber fabrication, tools, and equipment to support operational excellence
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Promote a positive safety culture by following and reinforcing all Kalesnikoff health, safety, and environmental policies
- Support performance monitoring by providing feedback and recommending corrective actions when required
- Clean and maintain work areas to support safe and efficient operations
- Maintain professionalism and strong communication with internal stakeholders to support teamwork and compliance
- Understand and adhere to all company policies and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Post-secondary education and/or a Red Seal in Carpentry or related trade is preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in mass timber, wood manufacturing, or fabrication is considered an asset
- Ability to read fabrication plans and blueprints with strong technical understanding of fabrication equipment and tools
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and delegation capabilities with the ability to support training and peer development
- Effectiveness in safety compliance and productivity improvement
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and time-management abilities with a focus on quality work
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced workplace and remain calm under pressure
- High level of professionalism, sound judgment, and ability to handle sensitive situations tactfully
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing




- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel) and email systems for reporting and documentation
- First Aid training or certification is considered an asset

Work Conditions:

- Location: K3 – 215 Orchard Ave, Castlegar, BC

Compensation Package:

- Salary: $36.70 – $40.50 (Dependent on experience)
- Schedule: Friday – Sunday 5:30am – 6:00pm
