We’re currently looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – Grader to join our team. This role is critical to the success of our projects and requires precision, awareness, and a strong commitment to safety.

MacKay Contracting Ltd. is a progressive and well established heavy civil construction and mining services company, operating across Western Canada. For over 40 years, we have taken on the project's others shy away from, doing them safely, efficiently, and with pride.

This role is based out of our Cranbrook headquarters office, located at 1600A Theatre Rd., Cranbrook, BC. Shifts typically run Monday through Friday, starting at 7:00 a.m., with 8 to 12 hour days. Overtime is paid after eight (8) hours. Occasional weekend work may be required but is not expected to make up a major component of the role.

What you'll get to do

- Perform work in accordance with all organizational, provincial, and federal health and safety standards and legislation, ensuring the highest standard of safety is upheld.
- Work within a team to effectively and safely operate multiple pieces of equipment such as excavators, loader, dozer, grader, and haul truck.
- Operate in crowded, rapid-paced working environments, exercising extreme caution and awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.




- Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals, from operators, ground personnel, and labourers, and act accordingly.
- Perform mechanical inspections and servicing, including controls and operations, completing logbooks, minor maintenance and adjustments, housekeeping, and machine lubrication within your skillset.
- Track daily cleaning at the end of shift.
- Recognize existing and potential hazards by conducting a field-level hazard analysis, checking for hazards, and assessing tasks.
- Be flexible with hours and willing to support project needs.
- Adhere to all MacKay safety practices and policies.
- Operate equipment while maintaining proper awareness of surroundings.
- Complete and submit daily FLHAs.
- Complete and submit daily timecards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Who you are

- Experienced in civil construction or equivalent experience on a grader.
- Knowledgeable in construction layout and staking.
- Experience with 3D machine control is considered an asset.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A strong communicator with active listening skills, able to take and follow instructions while operating safely.
- In possession of a valid form of government-issued photo identification.
- Able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- In possession of a valid and clean driver's abstract.
