Job Summary

EHN Edgewood Nanaimo is seeking a professional, reliable and compassionate Hairdresser/Hairstylist to provide hair services to clients at our residential treatment facility in Nanaimo one evening per week.

This is an independent service provider opportunity. The hairdresser operates their own business from our facility, sets their own prices, collects payment directly from clients and retains 100% of their service revenue. EHN Edgewood does not take a percentage of service fees.

About the Opportunity The successful candidate will bring their own professional tools and products and manage their own business operations, including appointments, pricing, payment processing, bookkeeping and taxes. The hairdresser will provide a current price list that includes short-, medium- and long-length haircuts, as well as pricing for colour services where offered.

Reliability is important to our clients and team. The hairdresser is expected to attend their scheduled service time, arrive prepared and on time, and arrange a qualified replacement if they are unable to attend. If additional hairdressing support is required for a particular service,



the hairdresser is responsible for arranging the additional qualified staff.

Client volume will vary from week to week, and Edgewood does not guarantee a minimum number of appointments or income. Clients may cancel, not attend appointments or have treatment-related commitments that affect their availability. The hairdresser will manage their own appointments and cancellation/no-show practices in a way that is respectful of the treatment environment.

Working With Our Clients

Our clients are individuals receiving treatment in a residential treatment environment. The successful candidate will provide services with a trauma-informed, respectful and client-centred approach, while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.

The hairdresser will follow Edgewood's Code of Conduct, facility expectations and Infection Prevention and Control requirements, and work collaboratively with Edgewood staff to support a secure and welcoming experience for clients.

Detailed expectations regarding client interactions, professional boundaries, confidentiality and permitted services will be reviewed during the interview and onboarding process.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Professional hairdressing/hairstyling experience
- Appropriate professional/business liability insurance
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent reliability and organizational skills
- Professional, compassionate and respectful approach
- Ability to work independently and manage a small business
- Ability to provide haircuts and, where applicable, colour services
- Own professional tools, products and debit/credit payment processing

Experience working in healthcare, mental health, substance use treatment or other client-centred environments is an asset. Artificial intelligence (AI) may be used to screen, assess, or select applicants for this position by analyzing application materials and generating recommendations to support human decision-making.
