At Chau Cafe we serve our community with wellness-oriented Vietnamese cuisine alongside offerings of specialty coffee and house-made drinks. Everything we do is done with intention, sourcing ingredients and utilizing every part of it to provide a healthful and sustainable meal.

Chau Cafe is the latest restaurant concept from the Huynh family, with the family serving Vancouver since 1978. Exceptional hospitality is at our core with a team of industry veterans who love to serve our community.

We are seeking an experienced Head Barista to lead our team and be hands-on with day to day operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for specialty coffee and customer service, and a comprehensive understanding of coffee equipment management. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a specialty coffee program, ensure exceptional customer experiences, and uphold the highest standards of food safety and hospitality.

Experience with specialty coffee is a must.

While your primary role will be Head Barista, you will participate in regular floor service (training provided) and assist the Restaurant Manager, Supervisor's and Server's in the restaurant's daily operations and food service. The Head Barista role works in tandem with the bar operations for drink and retail prep.

A driving license and ability to drive a large vehicle would be a huge benefit.

Duties

- Supervise daily cafe operations to ensure quality standards are met. Primarily ensuring the coffee equipment is dialed in correctly.
- Manage staff training to build a motivated and efficient team. Primarily ensuring the team is proficient in coffee service.
- Use POS systems such as Toast POS for accurate cash handling and transaction processing.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness in the bar, service and dining areas.
- Monitor inventory levels, place orders for supplies, and manage standards for quality control.




- Lead customer service initiatives to enhance guest satisfaction and handle any complaints or concerns professionally.
- Ensure smooth coordination between front-of-house and kitchen staff.
- Implement operational policies related to food safety, coffee service, and overall restaurant standards.
- Communicate goals, updates, and training on new procedures or menu items.
- Maintain a welcoming environment that promotes teamwork, leadership, and excellent service.
- Initially, use our current local coffee & equipment suppliers. Later, build new relationships with other local roasters and suppliers as required for the coffee program to grow.

Requirements

- Proven experience in cafe management with strong supervisory skills; prior experience in hospitality and coffee service is essential.
- Familiarity with POS systems and cash handling.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience in team management and training new employees.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on hospitality excellence.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and proper food handling practices.
- Experience in managing restaurant operations within the food industry is required; barista experience is required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead by example, motivate staff, and foster a positive work environment. Job Types: Full time, Permanent Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
