B SERRA u0026 SONS ROOFING

Etobicoke

ROLE

Junior Health, Safety & Compliance Coordinator

Full-time, permanent | Toronto / GTA | Office and active job sites

PRIMARY MANDATE

COR® and ISO system coordination

COMPENSATION

- Starting at $40,000; based on experience
- Based on a 40-hour work week.

THE OPPORTUNITY

B. Serra & Sons Roofing is building a stronger, more consistent safety and quality system as we work toward COR® and ISO certification. We are looking for someone who feels called to make work safer, not simply to complete forms, but to make sure good practices are understood, documented, followed and improved.

This is an entry-level growth role for a highly organized person who can turn daily field activity into reliable records and practical follow-up. You will work closely with our project and field teams, own the safety administration process, visit active roofing and construction sites, and help build a system that people can actually use.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

1. Help develop and maintain the company’s COR® and ISO programs, documentation and records.
2. Create and organize safety forms, policies, inspections, training records and safe-work procedures.
3. Use existing digital tools and form builders to make safety reporting simple for field staff.
4. Conduct routine site inspections and follow up on corrective actions.
5. Coordinate orientations, toolbox talks and required worker documentation.
6. Maintain incident, near-miss, first-aid, training and subcontractor compliance records.
7. Work with management, foremen, workers and external safety advisors to identify and resolve gaps.
8. Provide simple progress reports on inspections, training, open actions and certification.
9. Once trained and designated, support or serve as the company’s COR® and ISO Internal Auditor.

HOW THE ROLE WORKS

You will work alongside management, foremen and field staff to develop a practical health and safety system.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will receive guidance in setting priorities,

resolving obstacles and advancing the overall safety and certification plan. You will manage the day-to-day documentation, coordination and follow-through.

Foremen and supervisors will remain responsible for directing work safely in the field. Your role will support them by keeping safety requirements clear, current and verifiable. Existing in-house tools and form builders will provide a strong foundation, with ongoing support available throughout the development process.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Audit-ready records

- Required records are current, easy to retrieve and connected to clear evidence.

Closed-loop follow-up

- Every finding has an owner and due date, corrective actions are verified and closed.

Field participation

- Foremen and workers understand the process and submit usable documentation consistently.

Certification progress

- COR® and ISO milestones move forward against an agreed plan, with gaps raised early.

Practical improvement

- The system becomes simpler, more reliable and more useful—not paperwork for its own sake.

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

1. You care deeply about people going home safely and are willing to speak up respectfully when something is incomplete or unsafe.
2. You are unusually organized: you notice missing information, follow through without repeated reminders and close loops.
3. You can work comfortably with construction crews, office staff, clients and external auditors.
4. You communicate clearly in writing and in person, and can explain requirements in plain language.
5.

You are comfortable visiting active roofs and construction sites, working outdoors and following all required fall-protection and PPE procedures.
6. You are confident using Microsoft 365, spreadsheets, PDFs, photos and cloud-based record systems.
7. You are early in your safety career and hungry to learn, or you bring comparable construction administration experience with a reliable interest in occupational health and safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Required: Valid Ontario G driver’s license and reliable transportation, ability to travel to sites across the GTA; legal ability to work in Canada; strong written and verbal English; comfort working in an active construction environment.
- Preferred: Certificate, diploma or coursework in occupational health and safety, construction management or a related field; knowledge of Ontario’s OHSA and Construction Projects Regulation; Working at Heights, WHMIS and First Aid/CPR; exposure to COR®, ISO or internal auditing.
- Training commitment: The successful candidate must complete the courses required for a designated COR® & ISO Internal Auditor and any additional training needed for the company’s certification program. B Serra will support the required training.

WHY JOIN B SERRA?

You will have the opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up. Your work will directly influence how our company protects people, wins trust and grows into more demanding projects. This is a hands-on role with room to develop into a Health & Safety Coordinator, COR® & ISO Internal Auditor or broader compliance leadership position as capability and results grow.

HOW TO APPLY

Send your resume and a short note explaining why construction safety matters to you and how you keep complex records organized. We welcome candidates with the right discipline and motivation, even if they are still building direct safety experience.
