Heat Treat Operator – Manufacturing
Position Summary The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for operating quench systems, and tempering equipment to harden and temper drill rod steel to precise metallurgical specifications. This role is critical to product quality and safety, as drill rods used in mining and exploration must meet strict hardness, toughness, and fatigue-resistance standards for downhole performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Load, run, and unload heat treating furnaces per work orders and material specs
- Set and monitor furnace temperatures and cycle times.
- Conduct hardness testing (Rockwell/Brinell) and record results for quality traceability
- Read and interpret heat treat charts, work orders, and metallurgical specifications
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on furnaces, quench tanks, and related equipment
- Maintain accurate production and quality logs (temperature logs, batch records, hardness test results)
- Follow all safety protocols around high-temperature equipment.
- Flag non-conforming product and support root-cause troubleshooting with quality/metallurgy staff
- Support continuous improvement of cycle times and process consistency
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade training an asset
- Prior heat treating, induction, or metal manufacturing experience preferred (1–3+ years)
- Familiarity with hardness testers, pyrometers, and furnace control systems
- Ability to read technical drawings and heat treat specifications
- Strong attention to detail -this is a quality-critical role
- Forklift/overhead crane certification an asset
- Knowledge of steel metallurgy (grain structure, hardening/tempering theory) is a solid asset
Working Conditions
- Plant/shop floor environment, exposure to heat, noise, and industrial equipment.
- The company will provide training, and the successful applicant will work the day shift during the training period, then shift to the afternoon shift.
- Schedule Hours – 7.30am to 4.00pm for training Period, and the afternoon shift will be 4.00pm to 2.00am
Pay: From $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
