Job Summary The purpose of this role is to assist the Site General Manager to implement and operate integrated management systems and site-specific standards, policies and procedures in relation to Health and Safety. The HSEC Coordinator H&S; Lead is also responsible for the implementation of initiatives and programs for continual improvement.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with staff in environmental, human resources, mining, milling, and maintenance.
- Provides technical safety and health support and information to mining maintenance and mining and milling departments.
- Implements written safety and health programs and policies for maintenance, mining and milling departments.
- Supports the maintenance of OHSAS 18001 system and updates Safety Management System where and when applicable.
- Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs in conjunction with the training department.
- Develops annual company safety and health goals/objectives.
- Participates in existing and new process reviews, including hazard identification risk assessment (HIRA), operator training, etc.
- Supports corporate and engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
- Supports mine personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Maintains corporate and local safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
- Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs
- Assists as necessary in implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
- Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations.
- Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
- Provides technical support to corporate and mine personnel to ensure compliance with the BC Health Safety and Reclamation Code, NIOSH, etc.
- Advises mine site staff of regulatory changes with which the mine must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
- Audits practices and records of mine to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations.
- Manages injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
- Assists with environmental sampling.
Requirements
- BS Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent experience and education.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Government Regulations regarding safety and health management, particularly the HSRC of BC
- 3 years experience in underground mine emergency response planning and coordination
- Excellent technical knowledge and skills, including a broad understanding of planning, scheduling and safety and health concepts, with an ability to communicate with and train others
- Strong organizational and conceptual planning and operational skills with ability to communicate vision to others
- Strong coordination skills in emergency response and team development
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills and a “team-oriented” approach to the achievement of task
- Proficiency in relevant software
Pay: $90,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
