Your future role on our team
Your role as an intermediate mechanical layout designer will consist of preparing 3D models, drawings and other technical documents for mining projects. You’ll also provide quality service and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients by contributing to projects in the mechanical engineering discipline. As part of a growing office, we’re looking for someone to work within the Mechanical Engineering team to help deliver fast-paced projects, help grow the team and advance their career with BBA.

- Lead mine plant layout design and perform calculations for highly complex studies and detailed design projects, shaping how client mines are built
- Design and detail mechanical layouts, tanks, sheet-metal work and chute work across the mining industry using 3D CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, Smart 3D, CADWorx and AutoCAD
- Tackle complex technical challenges, including clash detection, point-cloud modelling, PFD and P&ID; interpretation and vendor coordination to bring designs from concept to construction
- Mentor and train junior designers and EITs, strengthening your leadership skills while helping develop the next generation of mining professionals
- Take ownership of project coordination, drafting management, schedules and budgets, with a direct impact on project execution and success
- Gain hands-on experience with clients and site operations through design reviews, field inspections and quality assessments, while working on multiple fast-paced projects at once

Summary of certifications and job requirements
- College diploma in mechanical engineering technology (design) or equivalent
- From 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in mechanical layout and design drafting of processing plants in a multidisciplinary engineering design environment
- Experience in mechanical design in mine process plants, including knowledge of mechanical systems, materials and industry standards
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts
- Experience within a large project, multidisciplinary EPC/EPCM environment
- Ability to travel and perform site work, where required
- Driver’s licence
- Asset: experience in mechanical design of the following sectors: hydropower, wind, pulp and paper, clean energy
- Asset: knowledge of 3D CAD tools such as Smart 3D, SolidWorks and CADWorx
- Asset: bilingual (English and either French or Spanish)
- Asset: experience in TrueView, Revit, CloudWorx, CADWorx, Smart 3D and Navisworks
