About the role
Douglas Online Technologies Canada is hiring one Native iOS Developer to maintain and progressively expand the iPhone client for a production online platform.
Job scope The role involves developing and maintaining user-facing iOS features, integrating the application with existing platform services, resolving technical issues, improving performance and accessibility, and supporting testing and releases. The developer will collaborate with backend, web, and Android engineers to provide a reliable and consistent experience across the platform.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain SwiftUI screens, observable state, navigation, sheets, accessibility, lifecycle recovery, offline states, and native system integrations.
- Maintain UIKit and WebKit interoperability, including WKWebView lifecycle, navigation policy, process recovery, JavaScript bridges, message handlers, and web-to-native event synchronization.
- Own URLSession networking, Codable models, async/await or Combine-based orchestration, error mapping, authenticated API calls, and optimistic actions with rollback.
- Synchronize first-party session cookies safely between URLSession, HTTPCookieStorage, and WKHTTPCookieStore while handling expiry, sign-out, and cold-launch restoration.
- Implement deep links, native authentication, settings, account lists, search, notification handoff, SFSafariViewController, share sheets, haptics, and lifecycle media suspension or resumption.
- Move selected web-backed surfaces to native SwiftUI only when controls, states, privacy rules, gestures, accessibility, and API behaviour meet the established parity gate.
- Write and maintain XCTest coverage for configuration,
password policy, navigation, connections, notifications, settings, networking boundaries, and lifecycle behaviour.
- Maintain Xcode project settings, XcodeGen configuration, privacy manifests, asset catalogues, code signing, archives, TestFlight/App Store release preparation, and release checklists.
- Coordinate API and behaviour changes with backend, web, and Android engineers and document the native/WebKit ownership boundary accurately.
Required qualifications
- At least 4 years of professional iOS development experience.
- At least 2 years of production Swift development experience.
- Production experience building and maintaining substantial user-facing features with SwiftUI.
- Strong Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit interoperability, URLSession, Codable, concurrency, lifecycle, state-management, and REST/JSON skills.
- Experience with WebKit/WKWebView integration, JavaScript message bridges, cookie synchronization, deep links, and process or navigation recovery.
- Experience implementing VoiceOver, focus management, Reduce Motion, native dismissal gestures, and other iOS accessibility behaviours.
- Experience with XCTest, Xcode, project configuration, signing, archives, and TestFlight or App Store release workflows.
- Ability to read focused JavaScript bridge code and collaborate on a shared web/native contract.
- Ability to work in office in Toronto, Ontario on the regular schedule described below.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience incrementally migrating a hybrid or WebKit-backed product toward native SwiftUI without a full rewrite.
- Experience with Combine as well as async/await, HTTPCookieStorage/WKHTTPCookieStore, SFSafariViewController, share sheets, haptics, and background recovery.
- Experience with XcodeGen, privacy manifests, accessibility audits, deep-link queues, or crash/process recovery.
- Experience validating native behaviour against an existing web product and fixed backend contract.
What success looks like
- The iOS app preserves complete working behaviour while native SwiftUI ownership expands in deliberate, testable increments.
- Authentication, cookie synchronization, WebKit recovery, deep links, accessibility, lifecycle, and API-backed native screens remain dependable.
- Builds, tests, signing, and release preparation are documented and reproducible on the supported Xcode and iOS versions.
