Who we are:
The New Brunswick Museum (NBM), the oldest operating public museum in Canada, is seeking a dynamic person to fill the role of IT Technician.
The NBM was established by an Act of the New Brunswick Legislature as the provincial museum, with the mandate to research, collect, preserve and interpret the natural, human and cultural heritage of the province of New Brunswick and related regions.
Currently, the NBM is located at the Lancaster Collections & Research Facility while the former 1934 Museum is restored and expanded at the previous Douglas Avenue location. There are no public exhibitions at the Lancaster Facility. The new Museum will open in 2028 as a modern, inclusive, and sustainable institution that broadens public access, reinforces provincial identity, and fuels cultural tourism across the province.
What you will do:
As the IT Technician, you will accountable to the It Manager. Your mandate is to provide day-to-day information technology support to all users within the NBM for their computer, cell and printer needs, issues and/or questions.
The roles and responsibilities include:
- Maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, databases, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
- Provide support in-person, over the phone, or using remote tools.
- Manage servers, SAN, NAS and WAP devices.
- Install, configure, and support workstation software, hardware, printers and phones for employees.
- Provide training as required on computer systems.
- Hardware and software upgrades as required for servers, computers and cell phones.
Who you are: You possess a sound understanding of how software and operating systems work, a strong ability to listen before acting, excellent time management skills that allow you to triage and manage multiple support issues at once. You are at ease communicating technical concepts with staff and you treat people in a polite and professional manner.
You are able to take direction but also to work independently as required.
Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Required competencies:
- A College or University degree in Information Technology, IT Network Administration, Information Systems Management, or the equivalent.
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in in a similar position.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Server products, iOS and Android.
- Noted experience in database management.
- Spoken language competency (English and French); please state your language capability.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.

Wage: From 1,807$ to 1,994$ bi-weekly.
Work environment:
- Office location: New Brunswick Museum, 228 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, New Brunswick
- Office layout:
Partitioned workstations with adjacent open office concept
- Regular working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. although occasional evening or weekend work may be required
