Accountant

Our Client is a boutique firm of Chartered Professional Accountants based in the West End of Toronto, specializing in providing customized tax, accounting, and business advisory services. Their mission is to provide high-quality, tailored solutions to small corporations, owner-managed businesses, and individual tax clients throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Position Overview

They are searching for an Accountant to join their team. The successful candidate will be primarily focused on bookkeeping and providing accounting support for small business clients, while also assisting with personal and corporate tax engagements, as required. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public practice while working closely with experienced professionals in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of small business clients.
- Record financial transactions, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, and investigate discrepancies.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and assist with year-end working papers.
- Prepare compilation engagement files and financial statements for small corporations.
- Assist senior staff with preparation of T2 corporate income tax returns and supporting schedules.
- Prepare T1 personal income tax returns for individuals, families and business owners.
- Prepare GST/HST returns and other CRA filings.
- Review client’s financial information for completeness and accuracy to identify issues and recommend appropriate adjustments.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with skilled standards, firm policies, and CRA requirements.
- Communicate professionally with clients, team members and the CRA, through email or phone,



to request information, answer routine questions, and provide updates.
- Maintain accurate and organized electronic, and hard copy, client files and documentation.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with firm procedures, professional standards, and CRA requirements and deadlines.

Qualifications

- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- Previous experience in public accounting, bookkeeping or tax preparation is required. Exposure to different industries is an asset.
- Experience with accounting and tax software is required. Knowledge of QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Intuit ProFile, and/or CaseWare are an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Robust attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving abilities with a commitment to producing accurate work.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Adaptability and the ability to manage multiple deadlines during busy tax seasons.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and a focus on providing exceptional customer service.
- Take responsibility for assigned tasks through to completion.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team.
- Willingness to learn and continuously develop technical accounting and tax knowledge.
- Ability to speak French is an asset.
- Access to an automobile is an asset.
