Role Description The Lead Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role based in Hamilton, ON, responsible for overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and repair of trucks, heavy equipment, and facility machinery used in daily waste and recycling operations. This position leads and mentors mechanics and technicians, assigns tasks, and ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Daily responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical and hydraulic issues, performing scheduled preventive maintenance, coordinating parts and supplies,



and maintaining accurate service records.

The Lead

Mechanic collaborates with operations teams to minimize downtime, supports equipment upgrades or modifications, and promotes a strong safety culture in the shop and yard.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated ability in Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair of vehicles, machinery, and related equipment.
- Strong Preventive Maintenance skills, including planning and executing service schedules and inspections.
- Experience working with Heavy Equipment, such as trucks, loaders, compactors, and related hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical documentation.
- Previous leadership experience in a shop or fleet environment, including guiding and training mechanics or technicians.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental standards, and best practices for waste and recycling operations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and equipment schematics.
- Relevant trade certification or apprenticeship completion (e.g., licensed mechanic or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
- Solid organizational, communication, and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize in a busy operational setting.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial or heavy vehicle license is an asset.
