Canadian Grain Commission- Grain Research LaboratorySelection process number26-CGC-NHQ-EA-GRL-3851LocationWinnipeg (Manitoba)Salary$93,431 to $120,292LevelCH-03Who can applyPersons residing in Canada, and Canadian citizens and Permanent residents abroad.Positions to be filled1DutiesSupervise research to assess, improve, and develop scientific procedures and technologies used in the determination of mycotoxins.Supervise surveillance and monitoring of mycotoxins performed to support Canada’s reputation as a consistent and reliable source of high-quality grain.Supervise a team of technicians as well as the operations of an analytical laboratory containing a variety of state-of-the-art tools, including liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and high resolution mass spectrometry.Conditions of EmploymentWork overtime as required.Work with and be exposed to hazardous chemicals and equipment.Wear appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment.Maintain standing and/or sitting positions for extended periods of time.Work in an environment where there is continual exposure to grain and flour dust (known allergies must be controlled through the use of personal protective equipment and/or medication and must not impinge upon the work to be performed).Move and/or lift items (up to 20 kg).Adhere to laboratory safety standards and procedures.Work in cold rooms for limited periods in order to retrieve samples.EducationGraduation with a degree from a recognized post‑secondary institution with specialization in chemistry.ExperienceExperience managing staff, including assessing and developing staff performance.Experience developing and using laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures.Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting mass spectrometric‑based analytical instrumentation.CompetenciesEffective interactive communicationManaging peopleCommitment to qualityAnalytical thinkingAdaptabilityAbilitiesAbility to manage multiple tasks with different priorities.Ability to analyze, organize, summarize, and present complex scientific data and information.Language RequirementsExperience performing or supervising the analysis of heavy metals in complex matrices using microwave digestion and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.PreferencePreference will be given to veterans and to Canadian citizens, in that order, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
