Career Opportunities: Speech Language Pathologist (103025)Requisition ID 103025 -Posted - Allied HealthHours of Work:Temporary Full-Time Position; (Approximately 12Months), DaysWage Range:$44.67-$57.92DESCRIPTION:The Speech- Language Pathologist’s principal functions are to assess and treat persons with communication and swallowing disorders. The Speech- Language Pathologist is an integral member of the interprofessional team. Through the provision of patient and non-patient care responsibilities, the Speech- Language Pathologist enhances the quality of life of patients by assessing, planning and implementing plans of care to maintain, improve and restore communication and swallowing function. The Speech-Language Pathologist also supervises/mentors students and new clinical staff.Within this role the Speech- Language Pathologist is accountable for contributing to the delivery of services as set out by KHSC. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Review referrals/consults for appropriateness and prioritizationProvide assessment, consultation and treatment of referred patientsUtilize evidence-based practice and best practice guidelines in the speech pathology plan of careUtilize outcome measures to guide clinical decision-makingAnalyze and interpret results to develop a treatment plan.Establish treatment goals in collaboration with the patient and familyProvide education to patient and families as it relates to the speech pathology plan of careContribute to the development of discharge plansParticipate in interprofessional care planning (i.E. rounds and family conferences)Liaise and collaborate with other professionals and service providers.Document results of patient interventions in accordance with College Standards and Hospital Policy.Provide direction and supervision to speech pathology students participating in the speech pathology plan of careEnter workload data accurately and at the required frequencyParticipate in orientation of new staffParticipate in program and discipline-specific team meetingsParticipate in program and discipline-specific educational opportunitiesShare newly acquired knowledge and skills with SLP colleagues and the interprofessional teamParticipate in discipline-specific, program and organizational committees or councils as requestedParticipate in continuous quality improvement and accreditation activitiesComplete all mandatory KGH Learning Management System education modulesParticipate in approved researchPerform other duties that may be requestedProfessional responsibilities:Demonstrate current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario. OntarioAdhere to the standards for practice outlined by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of OntarioPerform only those authorized activities that he/she have rostered with the College of Audiologists and Speech- Language Pathologists of OntarioMaintain a high standard of clinical competence through professional development and quality assurance activitiesContribute to the preparation of health science students through knowledge translation, practical learning and mentorship.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Master's Degree in Speech Language PathologyRegistered Member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of OntarioExperience in an acute care setting is preferredExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to make sound qualified decisions in a medically-complex, interprofessional and learning environmentStrong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfullyDemonstrated ability to work independently and with a high degree of initiation and motivationDemonstrated ability to collaborate with othersDemonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to be effective and efficientDemonstrated commitment to evidence-based and best practiceProven ability to attend work regularlyProficient with computer applications (i.E.
