Maintenance Assistant II – 1.0 FTE

Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largest public charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campuses throughout the city. We offer educational programming through a distinctive Direct

Instruction Teaching and Learning Framework (DITLF) that has been refined and developed within the Alberta context for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to provide a safe and caring workplace where the four pillars of our charter,

Position Summary A Maintenance Assistant II is required for a full-time continuing position beginning immediately.

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of school facilities, including but not limited to carpentry, HVAC, general building oversight and plumbing.

Responsibilities

1. Maintenance

a. Review and complete work orders submitted b. Taking daily boiler readings c. Boiler checks on the weekend d. Identifying repairs to be escalated to Assistant Facility Director requiring external contractor involvement e. Preventative Maintenance tasks f. Assist other Maintenance Assistants as needed to complete work orders g. Take initiative on identifying and completing repairs during regular maintenance and preventative maintenance activities h. Meet contractors for repair and project access
1. Safety

a. Identifying and reporting to the Assistant Facility Director any safety hazards within the building b.



Ensuring outside playground equipment is in good repair, and reporting any issues to the Assistant Facility Director c. During winter, if sidewalks or building entrance appear slippery, applying salt when necessary
1. Other related duties as assigned

a. Physical requirements: ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally. b. Must be able to walk and work without sitting for the majority of the day.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Attributes

- Understanding of building mechanical systems
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Takes initiative and works independently
- Ability to be flexible when plans change

Desired Experience and/or Training

- High School Diploma required
- Skilled trade or mechanical experience required
- Previous experience in building maintenance required
- 5th Class or higher Power Engineering Certificate of Competency or relevant Red

Seal Journeyman ticket required
- Basic/standard first aid certificate required
- Additional tickets such as Aerial platform, confined space preferred
- Previous work experience within a school environment preferred
- Previous experience supervising employees preferred
- Previous experience with the oversite of new or restoration projects preferred

Salary Range: $73,278 – 91,520. Closing date for applications: This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
