Your Opportunity
Health Shared Services is seeking an experienced and collaborative leader to join HR Shared Services as the Manager, Benefits & Pension. Reporting to the Director, Employee Services, this key management role provides leadership and oversight for the Benefits & Pension teams responsible for the administration and delivery of pension and advantages programs across Alberta's provincial health organizations. As a member of the Employee Services leadership team, you will provide both strategic and operational direction for benefits and pension services that support employees and leaders across the provincial health system.
The Manager is accountable for ensuring benefit and pension programs are administered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with organizational policies, legislative requirements, plan provisions, and collective agreements. This role oversees key partnerships with Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), Alberta Pension Services (APS), benefit carriers, and other external stakeholders; leads benefits and pension program changes; drives service and process improvements; and contributes to the strategic objectives of HR Shared Services while fostering a high-performing team culture focused on service excellence, continuous improvement, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a large, complex organization, with demonstrated expertise in benefits and pension administration, compliance, audit oversight, and stakeholder management. Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, drive operational excellence, and support organizational change. Strong knowledge of PeopleSoft and experience with large-scale HRIS implementations are necessary.
Experience in a unionized environment is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications
Required key competencies: strong verbal and written communication skills; client-focused orientation and commitment to service excellence; sound judgement, problem-solving ability and independent decision-making; effective relationship building and collaborative skills across diverse teams; and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional designations such as Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Group Benefits Associate (GBA), or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) are considered assets. Expertise in the healthcare sector benefits & pension administration is preferred. Experience in project management, business process improvement, and/or quality assurance is an asset. Experience working with LAPP, Alberta Pension Services (APS), and third-party benefit providers is preferred.
