Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Chef Manager, Catering Manager or Associate Manager, the Assistant Manager assists in the day-to-day supervision of operations as assigned. This position is an entry level management position in Hospitality Services.
The incumbent provides consistent supervision to front-line and back of house staff to ensure operational efficiency, maintaining department standards for food quality and presentation, service, safety and sanitation while assisting management in meeting and exceeding customer needs and the goals and objectives of the department.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Manager, Catering Manager or Chef Manager, the incumbent:
Assists in the effective management of assigned operations.
Supports management with ordering food and supplies.
Assists with cash control and staff scheduling.
Supports marketing initiatives.
Maintains and improves service and safety standards.
Provides front-line customer service.
Works alongside employees to maximize efficiency, quality and service.
Participates in catering functions, including setup and cleanup.
Supervises employees and performs other managerial duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities
1. Operational Management
Under the direction of the Chef Manager, Catering Manager or Associate Manager: Assist in day-to-day supervision of Hospitality Services operations.
Provide supervision and direction to employees.
Operate under established departmental objectives.
Monitor operational functions, including supplies, ordering, labour costs, and food costs.
Assist in identifying and implementing effective service delivery models balancing food quality, sustainability, and customer service.
Collaborate with employees to understand operational needs.
Seek customer feedback and communicate industry trends to management.
Monitor inventory levels and assist in purchasing food and supplies.
Assist with staff scheduling.
Ensure marketing, operating, and service standards are followed.
Assist in employee training.
Participate in customer service, food preparation, setup, and cleanup during peak periods.
Act as a customer escalation point when necessary.
1. Human Resource Management
Establish work priorities. Demonstrate work procedures and allocate staff during shifts.
Assist with employee training and identify training gaps.
Recommend training programs to management.
Foster and support a team-based work environment.
Empower staff to provide exceptional customer service.
Encourage high standards and creativity in food preparation and presentation.
Ensure healthy and safe working conditions to support injury reduction objectives.
Education and Experience
College Diploma in Food and Beverage Management or equivalent.
Minimum two years of junior management or supervisory experience in hotel, commercial, or institutional food services.
Experience managing in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
