We offer gratitude to the Skwxwú7mesh People who have lived on these lands since time immemorial.Position:SCADA TechnicianStatus:Regular Full-TimeWork Area:Public WorksGENERAL SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, the SCADA Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, programming, and troubleshooting of SCADA systems (hardware and software) used in municipal operations including water, wastewater, and other infrastructure services. This role ensures reliable data acquisition, system performance, and operational integrity across all SCADA‑controlled assets.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESContributes to the success of our team and creation of our thriving community by fostering the District of Squamish corporate values: Respect, Integrity, Connection and Progress.Installs, configures, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots industrial instrumentation and control systems including analyzers, actuators, sensors, adjustable speed drives and related electrical equipment.Programs, maintains, and troubleshoots SCADA systems, including PLCs and RTUs.Coordinates and directs the work of contractors performing SCADA‑related tasks, including maintenance and upgrades to communications infrastructure such as towers, radio systems, instrumentation, and telemetry equipment.Maintains accurate records of software licenses, support contracts, and system documentation.Ensures all work complies with applicable safety standards and municipal operating procedures.Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical manuals, and process documentation for SCADA and instrumentation systems.Installs and maintains SCADA‑related security systems.Designs, configures,



and installs radio and telemetry infrastructure to support remote monitoring and control.Develops and delivers training sessions and technical support to operators and maintenance staff on SCADA and instrumentation systems.Provides hands‑on training and mentorship to staff on SCADA system operation and troubleshooting.Maintains inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables required for SCADA and instrumentation maintenance.Supports the SCADA budget by obtaining quotes, preparing purchase orders, and tracking project completion and expenditures.Collaborates with other municipal departments and external contractors to support infrastructure operations and upgrades.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESDemonstrated knowledge of water distribution systems, wastewater treatment and collection, and drainage systems.Demonstrated knowledge of SCADA Platforms.Demonstrated knowledge of ladder logic for SCADA and PLC programming.Knowledge of and ability to install data cabling.Sound knowledge of relevant WorkSafe BC safety regulations and District OH&S programs and procedures.Understanding of electronic/electrical equipment and related industry codes and standards.Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of PLC hardware and software.Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.Excellent troubleshooting and multitasking skills.Good project management and organizational skills.Excellent written and oral communication skills to interface with customers.Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and schematics.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Demonstrated ability to create and execute work plans.WORKING CONDITIONSThis position involves both desk/office and fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards.Employees working in the field are exposed to a variety of conditions including loud noise levels, vibration, hot and cold temperatures, inclement weather, heat, humidity and odor.Ability to work in confined spaces, climb and descend ladders and antennas at heights,



and operate a variety of power tools and construction equipment.Ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects up to 50 pounds.Required to work periodically for emergencies, including after hours, on standby, weekends, and holidays.REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEValid BC Class 5 driver’s license with a secure driving record.Eligibility to register with ASTTBC is considered an asset.Graduation from a recognized technical school in instrumentation, electrical technology or a related program, or possession of a related trade qualification certificate such as a journeyman instrumentation mechanic.Two years of experience in electrical automation and SCADA systems maintenance and programming.ORAn equivalent combination of education, training and experience.DisclaimerThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this position.
