Job Title: Swim Instructor- Summer (Temporary) – Part Time – 6 months – University Swimming Pool Campus Stockton. Salary: $16.90 – $20.00 per hour.Essential FunctionsProvide swim lessons for patrons ranging from beginning to advanced skill levels.Lead group or individual swim lesson activity with proper oversight, ensuring protected integration of the lesson and reducing risk of injury.Work with varying age groups and skill levels.Instruct and evaluate swimmers, tailoring instruction to the needs and abilities of the students.Be punctual, organized, approachable, and energetic.Perform other related duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsTwo (2) years of experience on a swim team or have passed the American Red Cross level 5 swim lessons requirement.Preferred QualificationsAmerican Red Cross Lifeguard certification and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification (training will be provided if not yet obtained before the start date).Prior experience instructing swim lessons.Former aquatics athlete.Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills provided in swim lessons offered.Ability to demonstrate required skills using teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, life jackets, etc.Ability to work independently.Positive interaction with general public to command attention and deliver instruction effectively.Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in one’s work.Physical RequirementsInstructor must be in the pool with the students. The job may require lengthy periods of standing, walking,



and running; assisting and rescuing struggling swimmers; performing CPR ifneeded; frequent repetitive motion; occasional climbing stairs; constant verbal and written communication; and lifting/carrying upto 25 lbs.Work Environment / Work Week / TravelWork is performed during class times. Classes are offered 10:00 a.M. – 1:00 p.M. and 3:00 p.M. – 7:00 p.M. Swim instructors should be available to work morning, evening, or both.
