District School Board of NiagaraInvites applications for:Interpreter for Deaf-Hard of HearingAnticipated to commence ASAPPosition:One (1) Full‑time Permanent Interpreter for Deaf-Hard of HearingLocation:DSBN Elementary & Secondary Schools in the Niagara RegionRate of Pay:$47,689.79 - $55,110.50Schedule:35 hours per week (10‑month position)Position SummaryThe Interpreter provides American Sign Language (ASL) and / or other sign language interpretation services to facilitate effective communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, parents, and educational staff within the school environment. The Interpreter also supports educational teams by contributing insights on communication strategies and participating in Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and review. Flexibility and professionalism are key, as the interpreter may be called upon to assist in various settings and situations as needs arise.ResponsibilitiesInterpreting in the classroom and assemblies for students.Interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing parents when they need to communicate with educational or special services staff.Preparing for classroom interpreting (familiarization with vocabulary and concepts).Participating in educational team meetings, including the development and review of progress on the Individual Educational Plan.Providing insight on the success of communication strategies.Providing interpreting for extra-curricular activities.Providing interpretation for other needs that may arise.QualificationsGraduation from a recognized interpreter training program (ITP).Active membership in the provincial and national interpreting associations.Fluency in English and American Sign Language (ASL).Knowledge of the CASLI Code of Ethics.Knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture.BenefitsAdditionally,
