Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Overview Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our Nuclear Refurbishment team in the role of Mechanical Design Engineer supporting the Pickering Refurbishment project .

This is an exciting chance to be part of one of Canada’s most important clean-energy projects, a large scale, multi-year project to extend the life of a major nuclear facility. This is a critical initiative supporting the continued delivery of safe, reliable, low-carbon power in Ontario.

Reporting to the Manager, Projects, you will be responsible for producing design deliverables to enable the successful planning, execution, and restart of refurbishment work.

Key Accountabilities

- Prepare preliminary and detailed design engineering packages and NICR (Non-Identical Component Replacement) packages for pressure boundary modifications following OPG Engineering Change Control (ECC) governance, and ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory and project requirements
- Coordinate with construction vendors and other stakeholders, as required, to respond to RFIs, produce Field Initiated Changes, review vendor documentation and manage assigned Engineering Holds to resolve emergent field issues.
- Collaborate with, communicate and present to internal stakeholders and external organizations,



including OEMs and component manufacturers and Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) vendors, to address complex technical and project challenges

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant design engineering experience (eg. pressure boundary modifications), preferably in nuclear, utilities, large-scale infrastructure projects or other regulated environments
- Must have working knowledge of OPG ECC governance, or previous experience with engineering change management and industry configuration management
- Experience in preparing design engineering packages, including NICR modifications, temporary modifications and permanent modifications is required
- Experience performing stress analysis calculations and hydraulic calculations is an asset
- Strong communication and presentation skills are essential for this role, as well as experience collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders
