D.B.K. Engineering Ltd. is a Calgary-based mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) consulting engineering firm. We provide building-systems design and contract administration for commercial, institutional, retail, and multi-family projects across Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Our team delivers practical, code-compliant, energy-efficient designs and supports our clients from concept through construction.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to produce HVAC and plumbing designs and Revit models for building projects. Working alongside our engineers, you will develop construction documents, size and select equipment, coordinate with other disciplines, and support contract administration. This is a full-time, in-office role at our Calgary office.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop HVAC and plumbing design drawings and 3D models in Autodesk Revit.
- Prepare heating and cooling load calculations, ductwork and piping layouts, and equipment selections.
- Produce complete construction document sets — plans, schedules, details, and specifications.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines to resolve conflicts.
- Support contract administration: shop-drawing and submittal review, RFIs, and site reviews.
- Design to applicable codes and standards, including the National / Alberta Building Code, NECB, ASHRAE, and CSA.
- Maintain Revit model standards, families,
and QA/QC on assigned projects.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit.
- At least 2 of those years as a mechanical designer working on HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent training and experience).
- Working knowledge of applicable building and mechanical codes (NBC/ABC, NECB, ASHRAE).
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Robust drafting, coordination, and communication skills, with attention to detail.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred (Assets)
- C.E.T. designation or membership with ASET.
- Experience delivering projects across multiple provinces (AB, BC, ON, SK).
- Familiarity with Revit MEP families, BIM workflows, and clash detection.
- Exposure to energy modelling software.
