A Canadian manufacturer with decades of experience designing and manufacturing custom electrical power distribution and control solutions, including switchgear, substations, modular buildings, and power-generation equipment. The company serves customers across mining, oil & gas, commercial and industrial, renewable energy, and transportation sectors.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop detailed mechanical designs, layouts, and drawings for electrical switchgear, industrial power and control equipment, modular buildings, substations, and related mechanical structures and systems.
- Create and maintain accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and technical documentation to support manufacturing and project execution.
- Apply sound mechanical design principles to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, accurate, and aligned with project requirements and company standards.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, production/fabrication, purchasing, and project management teams throughout the design and manufacturing process.
- Provide hands-on technical support to the shop floor, responding to questions, resolving design issues, and incorporating practical manufacturing feedback into designs.
- Review drawings and design documentation for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and quality before release to production.
- Manage design assignments and priorities to ensure drawings, documentation, and deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain organized and current engineering files, drawings, models, BOMs, revisions, and supporting documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Assist in developing, documenting, and maintaining engineering standards, design practices, templates, and procedures to improve consistency and efficiency.




- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve designs, workflows, manufacturability, quality, and engineering processes.

Qualifications

- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology / Mechanical Technologist or a closely related mechanical engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated skilled experience in mechanical design, particularly involving mechanical structures, fabricated assemblies, equipment, or mechanical systems; this position is not intended as an entry-level design role.
- Proficiency with 3D mechanical CAD and drafting software, with Autodesk Inventor strongly preferred.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings, with steel or structural fabrication design experience considered a strong asset.
- Experience designing within a manufacturing, fabrication, or engineered-to-order environment, with an understanding of how designs translate from engineering through production.
- Experience with electrical switchgear, electrical distribution equipment, substations, industrial power equipment, or similar products is highly preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset, along with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and the ability to prepare and review technical documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently identify and resolve design challenges.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- A self-motivated, disciplined, and dependable working style, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
