What You’ll Do As Director, Construction for SportChek, you will lead the national delivery of construction projects across Canada, overseeing a portfolio that includes new stores, relocations, and complex renovations within active retail environments.This Portfolio Consists OfRenovations typically ranging from $500K to $2MNew builds and relocations typically ranging from $5M to $9MAll projects delivered as tenant fit-ups within landlord-controlled environmentsReporting to the AVP, Design & Construction, you will be accountable for end‑to‑end execution across all provinces, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with SportChek’s evolving brand and customer experience strategy.Key Responsibilities Lead National Construction DeliveryLead delivery of SportChek’s national capital program across all provinces, including new builds, relocations, and renovationsEnsure consistent performance across schedule, budget, and quality metricsOversee complex, phased renovations in live retail environments, minimizing disruption to store operationsBuild and Lead a National TeamLead and develop a team of Project Managers and Coordinators located across CanadaEstablish clear expectations, drive accountability, and enable consistent execution across regionsBuild team capability and structure to support a growing, national portfolioDrive Project Planning, Estimation, and Delivery StrategyPartner with Real Estate and Leasing teams to support Schedule C development, including scope definition and budgetingLead the creation of detailed cost estimates, project scopes, and value engineering strategiesDetermine and implement appropriate construction delivery models (Construction Management, Design‑Build, Stipulated Sum) based on project complexityManage Contracts, Vendors, and Execution RiskOversee procurement and administration of construction contracts and consultant agreementsManage relationships with general contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors nationwideEnsure governance across cost, schedule, safety, quality, and contract complianceProactively manage risks associated with phased construction and tenant fit‑up projectsDrive Cross‑Functional AlignmentServe as the key construction partner to SportChek brand leadership, Operations, Real Estate, and Store Development teamsAlign construction execution with brand strategies, merchandising timelines,



and store operational needsAct as a senior escalation point to resolve issues efficiently and maintain project momentumEnable Operational Excellence Through Systems & ReportingLead the adoption and discipline of project management systems, reporting frameworks, and dashboardsEnsure consistent tracking of performance metrics across the portfolioDrive a culture of data‑driven decision‑making, transparency, and efficiencyEnable Project Managers to operate effectively through transparent processes, tools, and governanceWhat You Bring12+ years of progressive experience in construction, with a strong focus on national, multi‑site retail projectsProven track record of leading construction departments or large teams within retail organizationsDemonstrated experience delivering projects across multiple provinces within CanadaStrong background in retail design and construction, with an understanding of brand standards and customer experience requirementsDeep expertise in: Construction delivery methods (CM, Design‑Build, Stipulated Sum)Construction contracts and procurement strategiesComplex renovation phasing in operating storesCost estimation, scoping, and value engineeringLeasing coordination and Schedule C developmentStrong financial acumen with experience managing multi‑million‑dollar capital programsHighly effective cross‑functional leader with the ability to influence senior stakeholdersStrong focus on systems, reporting, and enabling high‑performing teams to execute efficiently at scaleWe’re always looking for great talent!
