The worker will facilitate court sanctioned or mandated workshops, providing advocacy and/or court supports to youth/parents and supporting wider violence prevention initiatives. They will work within a dynamic team of youth justice workers to decrease violent crime among youth and support those youth at most risk of violence. The position delivers programs internally and within community-based settings that value youth leadership, youth empowerment and self-determined care and development. This position reports to Senior Manager, Youth and Youth Justice Services and is part ofCUPE Local7797 .MAJOR DUTIESPlan,implementandsupervisethedailyoperationsofTheNeighborhoodGroups’YouthCriminalJusticeprograms,including (but not limited to) EJS, EJM, RJCMetc.Actively support to participants/family in the Youth Criminal Justice programs through systems navigation, advocacy and/or courtsupportRespondtoincidentsorthreatsofyouthviolenceoccurring,beavailablethroughouteveningsandweekendsforoncallconflict coaching, de-escalation,



emergency planning and determiningoptionsMaintain case files and case management of client files; including intake and assessment and follow up with Probation Services referral sources, relevant agencies and/orcaregiversProvidewarmreferralpathwaysforyouthtohelpmeetidentifiedneed,includinginternalreferralsthroughintegratedservices and/or external referrals to support complex of needspresented.Identify,developandimplementviolencepreventionstrategiesthatmeetthegoalsandobjectivesoftheYouthCriminalJustice Act with special regard to participation in Pre and Post-charge diversionprogramLead workshops on violence prevention, conflict resolution, and root causes ofoffendingDevelopandmaintainworkingrelationshipswithProbationOfficers,EJMCoordinators,CourtOfficials,TorontoDistrictSchool Board and communitypartnersApply Youth Justice expertise to support other violence prevention initiatives (house-wide or externally) which include, Integrative Services, Restorative Justice and ConflictMediationREQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONSB.S.W. or BA in related field and two years’ experience in case management, placement and support of young persons involved in the Criminal Justice System, or a combined equivalent of education andexperienceRecent knowledge of and experience working within the Youth Criminal JusticeActProven ability in case management,



protocol and documentationpracticeSpecialization in young men’s engagementstrategiesExperience with restorative justice/conflict mediation processes/anti-violence strategies/conflictcoachingKnowledge of Toronto’s Neighbourhood Improvement areas, with particular experience in the North West communities of TorontoRecent successful experience in development and facilitation of programs, workshops andtrainingsAbility to develop and maintain partnerships with relevant youth community resources inTorontoProven training and experience in conflict prevention strategies, mediation, and stress management anasset.Able to work occasional evenings andweekendsAbility to work within TDSB schools City-WideDemonstrated ability to work from an anti-oppression and an anti-colonial framework.
