The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a temporary, full-timeGIS Student to join the Information Services team.The temporary, full-time position will act in a d ata and application support role, with a special focus on supporting our Emergency Operations Center (EOC). This role will provide hands-on experience in GIS data management and the development of low/no-code applications.Reporting to the GIS Coordinator, the GIS Student will be responsible for:Dashboards and Applications: Assisting in updating and modernizing our EOC dashboards and applications.Web Apps Migration: Supporting straightforward migrations and updates of existing web applications.EOC Support: Providing backup support for the EOC during staff shortages.Foundational Data Preparation: Assisting in preparing and cleaning data for future projects.Qualifications:Hold “Student” status meaning that the individual must be attending, just completed or returning to school, college, or university.Currently enrolled in a GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, or related program .Experience with GIS software (such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar).Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Pro.Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.Experience working with the public and providing customer service.Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision.Ability to communicate in a courteous and tactful manner.Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel,
Outlook).Valid BC Driver’s Licence and clear driver's abstract.This temporary, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit.
