Role Description The NETA Field Technician Team Lead – Medium-Voltage Testing is a full time, on-site role based in Edmonton, AB. This position oversees a field team performing medium-voltage electrical testing, including commissioning, maintenance testing, and troubleshooting for switchgear, transformers, protective relays, and associated equipment.

The Team

Lead plans daily work, assigns tasks, reviews test results, and ensures adherence to safety procedures, NETA standards, and client specifications.

Responsibilities include coordinating site access, preparing test plans and reports, communicating findings and recommendations to clients, and supporting root-cause analysis for equipment issues. The role also involves mentoring technicians, verifying calibration and correct use of test instruments, and working closely with project managers to meet schedule and quality expectations.

Qualifications





- Demonstrated leadership experience in field operations or electrical testing, with the ability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate a team in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Strong technical background in medium-voltage power systems, including experience with switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, and associated testing procedures.
- Proficiency in electrical test methods and tools (e.g., insulation resistance, contact resistance, relay testing, primary and secondary injection) and the ability to interpret test results and technical documentation.
- Solid understanding of safety practices, applicable codes and standards (e.g., NETA, NFPA, IEEE), and a commitment to safe work procedures and hazard identification.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear test reports, documenting findings, and interacting with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Relevant certification or progress toward NETA certification and/or a technical diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work on-site in varying industrial conditions, travel to client facilities as needed, and perform physical tasks associated with field testing.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and test-report software; familiarity with digital test equipment interfaces is an asset.
- Previous experience in commissioning, maintenance, or electrical field services is strongly preferred.
