Join our Sterile Processing Department as we work together to deliver compassionate, professional and respectful care that is responsive to the healthcare needs of our community.We are looking for anSPD Aideto support our Sterile Processing Department.Employment Status:Part-timeHours of Work:Must be available for all rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) on weekdays, weekends, and statutory holidays.Location:Wilson siteLabour Group:NOWU ServiceHourly Rate:$29.864 - $30.412ResponsibilitiesIn accordance with the principles of infection control, decontamination, sterilization, and aseptic techniques, and established policies, procedures, and safety standards:Inspection, testing, setting up, and maintaining all hardware and trays needed by the clinics and/or departments in the hospital.Performs routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Identifies damaged or malfunctioning devices, reports, records, initiates, and follows up on repairs as required.Receives, sorts, disassembles, cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and sterilizes medical devices; performs decontamination and sterilization of hardware and case cart picking.Loads and operates sterilizing equipment, monitors operation, and performs standard quality assurance tests on the effectiveness of the sterilization process in accordance with manufacturer specifications, storing and rotating devices.Assembly and scanning based on computerized instrument tracking system and prints labels to adhere to tray, peel pouch, and containers.Receives, fills, and delivers urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and/or other patient areas.Monitors and maintains established levels of sterile and non-sterile supplies used throughout the hospital and department in accordance with pre-determined quantities and needs by performing inventory counts, requisitioning supplies, and recording shortages, problems,



and complaints.Adheres to departmental and hospital policy and procedures.Performs routine cleaning/sanitation of work stations/areas, storage areas, processing machines, and equipment.Performs related clerical duties such as maintaining records, answering telephones, filing, data entry, and information retrieval from computer.Assists with orientation and training of new staff and students.Prints pick lists using a computerized system, picks, and distributes medical device sets, equipment, and supplies for various patient care procedures and areas.Replenishes procedure and specialty supply carts for various patient care areas on a regularly scheduled basis in accordance with established policies and procedures.Performs and records environmental safety monitoring activities.Transports medical/surgical equipment, case carts, etc.Distributes and collects supplies, instruments, trays, etc. from the entire hospital and reprocesses in the appropriate way as required.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsGrade 12 or equivalent required.Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO).Two years recent experience including but not limited to: reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setting up, maintaining, transporting, distribution, and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware required.Good working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware,



and sterilization equipment required.Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology.Valuable command of the English language (both verbal and written) required.Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.Ability to operate, with training, machinery such as sterilizers.Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, which requires lifting/pushing (up to 25 lbs) and standing (up to 7.5 hours) for extended periods.Must be able to work with organic and inorganic residues such as blood and other bodily fluids and secretions on medical devices.Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work alone or as part of a team.Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.
