Technical Specialist, Emerging Technology (Non-Union)161 Cityview Blvd, Vaughan, ON L4H 0A9, CanadaFull-time, 35 hours per week, HybridLocation: Vaughan, ON (Cityview) or Guelph, ON (Southgate)Status: This position is to fill a current vacancySalary Grade: 14 ($87,992 – $109,990 annually)Reporting to the Technical Manager, Emerging Technology, the Technical Specialist, Emerging Technology plays a key role in researching, evaluating, and supporting the implementation of innovative solutions that enhance the performance of Alectra’s distribution grid.This role contributes to the development and deployment of cutting‑edge initiatives including microgrids, electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, low‑carbon communities, Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Virtual Power Plant (VPP) platforms, and advanced data analytics solutions.What you’ll doResearch, Innovation & Technology EvaluationConduct market research, technology assessments, and technical evaluations on emerging grid technologies (e.G., EVs, microgrids, DERMS, VPPs, and net‑zero solutions)Monitor industry trends and support technology intelligence efforts to inform innovation strategiesParticipate in industry events, conferences, and site visits to stay current on advancementsSolution Design & IntegrationSupport the design and architecture of emerging technology solutions for integration into the distribution gridAssist in developing system models and single‑line diagrams aligned with operational requirementsContribute to setting the strategic direction for grid technology systems and applicationsDeployment, Commissioning & OperationsSupport field deployment, commissioning,
and verification of smart grid and emerging technology solutionsAssist with measurement and validation activities to ensure system performance and reliabilityMaintain and support Alectra’s fleet of EV chargers, microgrids, nano grids, and IoT devices across service territories and customer sitesData Analysis & ReportingPerform data aggregation and analysis to support grid innovation and operational improvementsDevelop documentation, user guides, and technical reports for implemented solutionsSupport the development of proposals and contribute technical content for RFPs and funding applicationsCorporate Values and Conduct:Demonstrate professional conduct and align with Alectra’s core values of safety, teamwork, and customer focus.Other Duties:Perform additional tasks as assigned to support operational objectives.Who you areEducation & Technical KnowledgeDegree in Electrical EngineeringKnowledge of electrical distribution systems and smart grid technologiesUnderstanding of communication systems (e.G., serial, Ethernet) and protocols such as Modbus, IEC 61850, and DNP3Experience with data analytics and interpreting technical dataProficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel and VisioExperience2 to 3 years of related experience, ideally within energy, utilities,
or a related fieldExperience with communication networks is considered an assetStrong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work through complex technical challengesAbility to learn and apply recent technologies in a fast‑paced, evolving environmentEffective communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts clearlyDetail‑oriented with a strong focus on quality and accuracyAbility to manage multiple priorities and deliver results aligned with organizational goalsCollaborative team player who contributes to a positive and inclusive work environmentAdditional RequirementsValid Class “G” driver’s licence and ability to travel to various sites as neededCompensationCompensation for non‑union positions is determined within a defined salary range for each role. Placement within the salary range depends on qualifications, relevant experience, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
