In Industrial Engineering, research focuses on Operations Research, Information Engineering, Human Factors, and Applied Machine Learning—areas aimed at improving the systems humans rely on to navigate the world. In Mechanical Engineering, research spans Robotics, Mechanics & Design, Materials, and Thermofluids, all applied to manufacturing, energy production, and bioengineering.Our community includes about 2,000 students: roughly 1,300 undergraduates enrolled in Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering BASc programs; approximately 350Master of Engineering students; and about 350 MASc and PhD students working on individual research projects.The Department values a respectful, inclusive, and professional work environment and encourages employees who are goal‑oriented, self‑motivated, and committed to continuous improvement of student and faculty services.Your opportunityIn this role, you will advise research students (MASc and PhD) on academic matters, respond to inquiries, and prepare acceptance or rejection letters. You will analyze incoming applications and promote the research program at recruitment events. Managing confidential information is essential. Additionally, you will maintain internal databases, such as the MIE Graduate Management system and ROSI.Key responsibilities include:Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequencesResponding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriatePreparing acceptance and/or decline letters to applicants using templatesEnsuring that procedures and/or guidelines are followedScheduling committee meetingsPromoting programs at recruitment eventsGenerating reportsHandling sensitive and/or confidential informationEssential QualificationsBachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum three (3) years of recent and relevant experience working with students.Recent and relevant experience with academic student advising at a post‑secondary institution.Experience interpreting and applying relevant academic policies.Experience providing basic support to distressed students, including connecting them to resources.Experience working with databases, performing data entry, and producing reports in a high volume/high accuracy setting.Proficiency with student information systems (e.G.
