Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated part time PEACE Counsellor to join our team, committed to fostering emotional well-being and providing vital support to children between the ages of 3 and 18 years old who have witnessed domestic violence. Provides emotional and parenting support for parents regarding the impact on their children of witnessing violence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Interviews parents and children, prepares case histories and outlines services provided by the organization. Refers clients to community programs as needs arise.
- Assesses the impact of witnessing abuse on the child, the group readiness of the child and the support needs of the abused parent.
- Develops and conducts psycho-educational support groups for children.
- Conducts individual sessions with the child and/or individual members of his/her family using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution and psychoeducation; provides emotional support.
- Provides emotional and parenting support and referral services for parents.
- Conducts post group interviews with children and /or their families. Recommends follow-up services where necessary and makes appropriate referrals.
- Maintains related records, statistics and prepares reports as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.



Provides presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Education and Knowledge:

- Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social services field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Intersectional Feminist perspective, compassion, and demonstrative understanding of anti-oppressive analysis of violence against women
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate

Training and Experience:

- Two years recent related experience
- or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities:

- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage to critical thinking and practice sound judgment.
- Ability to work independently while guided by organizational policies.
- Competent in using Microsoft office suites such as outlook, word, excel, and cloud-based services.
- Ability to meet the physical demand of the job.

Required:

- Standard First Aid Certificate CPR Level C with AED, WorkSafe BC Approved / OFA Level
- Class 5 driver License and own vehicle required.
- Vulnerable sector criminal records check required.

Pay: $38.48-$49.72 per hour Expected hours: 21.0 per week
