Pedagogist: 35 hours per week Full Time position. This is a Full-Time, On-Site position.

Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.

We are seeking a Pedagogist to join Kiwassa.The Pedagogist provides pedagogical leadership across Kiwassa’s childcare programs, supporting educators in developing thoughtful, responsive, inclusive, and critically reflective early childhood practice. Working alongside educators, program coordinators, children, families, and community partners, the Pedagogist leads ongoing pedagogical learning and inquiry grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework. The role supports educators to critically reflect on their practice, develop pedagogical projects, engage with pedagogical narrations, and explore questions emerging from their everyday work with children.

The position contributes to a culture of ongoing skilled learning, collaborative inquiry, experimentation, and pedagogical dialogue across Kiwassa’s childcare programs.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

- Provides ongoing pedagogical leadership, mentoring, consultation, and professional learning to educators across Kiwassa childcare programs
- Works regularly within childcare programs alongside educators and collaborates with educators and program coordinators to identify pedagogical questions, tensions, and possibilities emerging from their work with children.
- Leads and supports pedagogical projects that invite educators to critically reflect on, experiment with, and further develop their practice.
- Supports educators in developing and engaging with pedagogical narration, revisit experiences, and deepen critical reflection and pedagogical thinking, as well as the engaging and upholding the ECE BC Learning Framework
- Plans and facilitates professional learning opportunities including learning circles, reflective dialogues, workshops, professional development days, and other ongoing forms of educator learning, both internally and externally.
- Researches and shares relevant resources, including research articles, books, professional publications, community resources, podcasts, and other materials that contribute to educators’ pedagogical learning.
- Works collaboratively with families, educators, Supported Child Development and other relevant community partners when children require additional support
- Supports educators in considering individualized strategies within the broader pedagogical and relational context of the program.
- Supervises and provides ongoing leadership, mentoring, and direction to the Inclusion Programmer, including establishing priorities and coordinating support across childcare programs.
- Collaborates with the Inclusion Programmer and program teams to determine where additional support is needed and how that support can strengthen children’s participation and educator capacity.




- Supports educators and coordinators in responding to complex or escalated situations and facilitates collaborative reflection regarding appropriate pedagogical and organizational responses.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with early years organizations, Supported Child Development, community agencies, post-secondary institutions, and other relevant sector partners.
- Establishes opportunities for collaboration with post-secondary institutions, including practicum relationships, professional learning, research, and knowledge exchange where appropriate.
- Documents and tracks pedagogical initiatives, professional learning, collaborations, and relevant outcomes across childcare programs.
- Prepares reports, presentations, pedagogical documentation, resources, and other materials that make educator learning and pedagogical work visible within Kiwassa and, where appropriate, within the broader early childhood community.
- Performs other related duties as required

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Childcare and Youth Manager. This position oversees the Inclusion Programmer.

Qualifications:

Education and Knowledge

- Early Childhood Education Certificate
- Post-basic Infant/Toddler and Special Needs certificates or training an asset
- Knowledge and demonstrated skill in trauma-informed and cultural competence practices
- Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment

Training and Experience

- Minimum five (5) years of experience in early childhood education and/or childcare settings
- Minimum one (1) year of demonstrated experience in pedagogical leadership, including supervising, mentoring, coaching, consulting with, and/or facilitating professional learning for early childhood educators
- Experience supporting early childhood educators, programs and/or staff in the production of and engagement with pedagogical narrations (pedagogical documentation).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational abilities including planning, and task facilitation
- An innovative and creative mindset and learning orientation, continually looking for opportunities to improve and enhance
- Cooperative and solution-oriented
- Demonstrated passion, compassion and commitment for the mission of Kiwassa

Demonstratable Skills and Additional Qualifications that would be considered an asset include:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Comprehensive understanding of the BC Early Learning Framework, including its vision, principles, living inquiries, and approach to pedagogical narration.
- Strong understanding of pedagogical narration (pedagogical documentation) and their role in inquiry, reflection, dialogue, and professional learning.
- Strong understanding of inclusive early childhood education and approaches that support participation and belonging.
- Ability to understand individualized support within the broader relational, pedagogical, and program context.
- Knowledge of contemporary and reconceptualist approaches to early childhood education, including critically reflective, relational, culturally responsive, anti-racist, and inclusive practices.
- Understanding of the implications of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action for early childhood education and care.
- Ability to facilitate complex pedagogical conversations and support educators to examine assumptions, tensions, and multiple perspectives.
