ALP is responsible for overseeing programs that provide alternatives to traditional court processes, including the Alberta Human Rights Commission, Family Support Order Services and SafeRoads Alberta. ALP strives to ensure a fair and equitable justice system, while improving accessibility, efficiency and affordability of justice services for Albertans.Role ResponsibilitiesIf you thrive at the intersection of policy support, coordination and administrative excellence, this role places you at the heart of impactful justice initiatives.ALP division is responsible for overseeing programs that provide alternatives to traditional court processes, including the Alberta Human Rights Commission, Family Support Order Services, and SafeRoads Alberta. The division operates in a complex legal environment, overseeing a broad range of programs across multiple areas of law and with different statutory frameworks. It works to support procedural fairness and provide opportunities for diversion of matters outside of traditional court processes, including oversight of independent and/or impartial tribunals and more traditional government programs.Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategy and Policy, you will be responsible for policy development, consultation and liaising with various stakeholders regarding the legislation that the Administrative Law Programs branches and tribunals operate within. The emphasis will be on the development, maintenance and monitoring of tribunals, their legislative framework and regulations that ALP is responsible for,



as well as general policy work related to innovation and modernization in the Justice System.Provide leadership and support of new policy and project initiatives and programs and maintain oversight of policies and directives in accordance with existing legislation.Prepare reports, recommendations, and briefing materials, and make presentations to divisional staff, management and/or internal and external stakeholders to provide information and support evidence‑based decision making.Provide policy and project implementation support for ALP Division staff, internal stakeholders, and external stakeholders.Monitor and improve ALP Program's website and external communications materials to ensure accuracy and relevance.Serve as a training resource for internal staff, providing guidance on recent initiatives and ongoing procedures.Research and consult on policy and procedural changes for ALP related to its work with independent or arm’s-length administrative tribunals.Conduct ongoing reviews of the legislation ALP Division is responsible for enforcing to ensure it remains responsive, aligned with government strategic priorities, and facilitates the achievement of program outcomes.Develop proposals for reviewing, creating, and amending relevant projects and programs.Support the development of briefing materials and other legislative and policy documents (e.G., cabinet reports, legislation charts, etc.).Participate in cross‑ministry, government and external policy initiatives to ensure ALP needs and interests are represented and stakeholder requirements are considered.Represent the branches and/or division as required.CompetenciesSystems Thinking : You consider the inter-relationships among different aspects of an approach, including how they relate to other programs or areas.Creative Problem Solving : You assess options and implications in new ways to achieve outcomes and solutions.Agility : You anticipate,



assess, and readily adapt to changing priorities, maintain resilience in times of uncertainty and effectively work in a changing environment.Drive for Results : You identify underlying causes for success or lack of success, and take action to ensure future success.Develop Networks : You proactively build networks, connecting and building trust in relationships with different stakeholders.Build Collaborative Environments : You lead and contribute to conditions and environments that allow people to work collaboratively and productively to achieve outcomes.Develop Self and Others : You reflect and understand your own and direct reports’ areas of strengths and opportunities for development.QualificationsRequired:A university degree in a related field (e.G., political science, public policy, economics, law enforcement, law, etc.) supplemented by a minimum of 2 years of progressively related experience in roles such as Policy advisor, Policy Analyst, etc.Assets & PreferencesWorking experience with research methods, project management approaches and information/data management is an asset.Knowledge of the government decision‑making processes, objectives, goals and strategies.Working knowledge and experience with policy development, program evaluation, legislation development, interpretation and review, including public consultation and implementation, is an asset.Understanding of how to develop and implement policy, program, and legislation within the Government of Alberta context.Working experience with projects involving changes to legislation, regulations, and policies to provide strategic direction to branches and to make feasible recommendations to Management or leadership.Related Experience and Additional Information1 year of education can be considered equivalent to 1 year of experience, and 1 year of experience can be considered equivalent to 1 year of education.Term of Employment: Permanent, Full‑time position.Hours of Work: 7.25 hours daily / 36.25 weekly – Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).Location: John E.
