The Medical Advisor, Rare Disease is a key member of the organization and will provide strategic medical and scientific leadership in support of the company's mission to improve access to innovative therapies for patients with rare diseases.

With national scope, the Medical Advisor will contribute to the development and execution of medical strategy, provide scientific expertise across the organization, and work closely with other Medical Team colleagues. The role will establish and maintain productive relationships with leading healthcare professionals, Key Opinion Leaders, researchers and other external stakeholders, while ensuring that insights from the medical and scientific community are effectively incorporated into Canadian strategy and priorities.

This is a head office based role requiring regular travel and engagement with stakeholders across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Scientific Leadership

- Contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing refinement of the Canadian Medical Strategy and annual Medical Plan for assigned products and therapeutic areas.
- Provide strategic medical and scientific leadership across the product lifecycle, including launch preparation, evidence generation, scientific exchange and lifecycle management.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and trusted source of medical and scientific expertise for internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Monitor and critically evaluate emerging clinical evidence, scientific developments, treatment paradigms and healthcare trends, reimbursement considerations and the competitive landscape, translating relevant insights into strategic recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the relevant disease landscape, patient journey, treatment environment and unmet medical needs.
- Identify emerging opportunities, risks and unmet needs and translate medical insights into actionable strategies that support patient care and organizational objectives.

External Scientific Engagement

- Develop and maintain credible, peer-to-peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders, healthcare professionals, investigators, researchers, patient organizations, and other relevant scientific stakeholders.
- Lead and support the development and execution of advisory boards, expert meetings,



educational programs and other scientific engagement initiatives in alignment with medical strategy.
- Support high-quality scientific exchange and ensure that external engagements are appropriately aligned with medical strategy and stakeholder needs.
- Identify and synthesize insights from external stakeholders and ensure their effective communication and integration into medical and organizational planning.
- Attend relevant scientific and medical forums, including congresses, advisory meetings and educational activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Medical Affairs Execution

- Serve as a key medical partner to colleagues across Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory Affairs, Patient Support Programs, and other functions, providing appropriate scientific and clinical expertise to support shared objectives.
- Contribute medical expertise to cross-functional planning and initiatives while maintaining appropriate medical independence and scientific integrity.
- Support publication planning, medical education activities, investigator-sponsored research, real-world evidence initiatives, and other evidence-generation programs.
- Ensure all medical activities, communications, and materials are scientifically accurate and compliant with Health Canada regulations, Innovative Medicines Canada Code, and company policies.
- Provide medical review and oversight of promotional and non-promotional materials, grants, sponsorships, and other medical affairs activities.
- Collaborate with relevant colleagues to support initiatives intended to facilitate appropriate patient access and optimize patient outcomes.
- Manage assigned medical projects, budgets, vendors, and external partners to ensure timely and effective execution.

Qualifications & Experience

- An advanced scientific or clinical degree in a relevant medical, scientific or healthcare discipline (MD, PharmD, PhD, MSc, NP or equivalent) is preferred.




- Significant experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related healthcare industry, with a strong background in Medical Affairs, Field Medical or a related function.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to or executing medical strategies, Medical Plans, scientific engagement programs and evidence-generation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of Medical Affairs, pharmaceutical development, the Canadian healthcare environment and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Experience within Rare Disease, specialty pharmaceuticals or another highly innovative therapeutic environment is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the Canadian healthcare environment and pharmaceutical landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to critically assess scientific and clinical data and translate complex information into clear, meaningful insights and recommendations.
- Strong strategic thinking, business acumen and ability to operate effectively within a cross-functional organization.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, with the credibility and confidence to engage effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted, professional relationships with scientific and medical experts.
- Robust organizational skills, sound judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and evolving environment.
- A collaborative, agile and entrepreneurial approach
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout Canada.
- Fluency in English required; French language proficiency is an asset.
