Job Title:Safety Technician IIDepartment:Winnipeg TransitDesignated Work Location:421 Osborne StreetPosition Type:Temporary, full timeSalary:$2,506.39 to $2,740.34 biweeklyPosting No:127026Closing Date:May 27, 2026Job ProfileUnder the direct supervision of the Safety Officer, the Safety Technician II is responsible for developing and delivering workplace safety education and training programs, conducting inspections, and investigating safety incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. The Safety Technician II conducts safety audits, environmental monitoring, data and statistical analysis to interpret safety trends and support the development of standards and procedures. The Safety Technician II prepares detailed reports, advises management and safety committees, and oversees the work of subordinates as required.ResponsibilitiesDevelops and delivers workplace safety education and training programs tailored to department needs and regulatory standards.Conducts workplace safety inspections to identify hazards, report unsafe practices, and recommend corrective actions for continuous improvement.Leads or assists supervisors and safety and health committees to investigate workplace safety incidents and concerns, to identify root cause and recommend corrective action.Conducts safety audits to identify compliance gaps, recommend corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.Performs environmental monitoring to assess hazards and support regulatory compliance.Conducts complex statistical analysis and safety research to interpret trends, support standards development, and guide workplace safety improvements.Performs other duties as assigned.Education and QualificationsCompletion of an Occupational Safety and Health program from a recognized post-secondary institution.Professional safety designation is considered an asset.Three years experience performing safety inspections, incident investigation, audits,



and training in a related safety and health function.Experience conducting hazard assessments, resolving safety issues and providing recommendations.Experience with Microsoft Office Software at an intermediate level, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.Demonstrated knowledge of Safety and Health principles and practices.Demonstrated ability to present Safety and Health training programs.Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates and subordinate groups as required by the position.Demonstrated ability to use a variety of Safety and Health testing equipment.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work independently.Ability to work effectively in a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.SIGNIFICANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service from application.Conditions of EmploymentThe successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada.
