This is a permanent part-time, hands-on pet store position requiring availability every Saturday and Sunday, plus one regular weekday shift (weekday to be determined).

You MUST be comfortable handling and caring for birds, rodents and other small animals. Our resident store birds are here every day, and we regularily have a variety of rodents and other animals in our care. Duties include handling, feeding, providing fresh water and cleaning cages/enclosures.

If you are afraid of or uncomfortable around birds, rodents or other live animals, please do not apply for this position.

This is also a keyholder position. Once trained, you must be comfortable working independently, cashing out and balancing the register, completing closing duties, securing the store and locking up at the end of the day.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Creatures Pet Store is a locally owned, family-run pet store looking for a dependable, responsible, friendly and self-directed Team Member/Keyholder.

This is a multifaceted position for someone who genuinely enjoys working with both people and animals and likes staying busy. No two days are exactly the same. There is always something to do, and you must be able to complete assigned duties independently and on time.

Greeting and acknowledging customers is an important part of this position. We are looking for someone who naturally notices when customers enter the store, welcomes them and offers assistance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Greet and acknowledge customers when they enter the store
- Provide friendly and skilled customer service
- Operate our POS system and process cash, debit, credit and gift-card transactions accurately
- Assist customers with dog, cat, bird and small-animal products
- Learn the products we carry and help educate customers about appropriate products and pet care
- Provide daily care for birds and small animals/rodents, including handling, feeding,



fresh water and cleaning cages/enclosures
- Be comfortable handling birds, rodents, fish, reptiles, insects, worms and other live animals as required
- Answer customer questions in person and by telephone
- Receive and put away stock deliveries
- Stock shelves and keep merchandise organized
- Complete assigned daily and periodic tasks independently and on time
- Perform routine cleaning and general store upkeep
- Remain calm, courteous and professional during busy periods and challenging customer interactions
- Work cooperatively with other staff and supervisors
- Cash out and balance the register at the end of the day
- Complete closing procedures, secure the store and lock up as the designated keyholder

EXPERIENCE Previous pet retail or animal-care experience is preferred. Retail customer service, cashier/POS, cash handling, keyholder, closing and stock-receiving experience are also assets.

We will consider someone without extensive pet-industry experience who is a quick learner, has strong retail/customer-service skills and has genuine hands-on experience and comfort with animals.
