The Queen's Phytotron is seeking three motivated and reliable students to join our team as Phytotron Assistants for the 2026-27 academic year. This position provides hands-on experience in plant production, greenhouse operations, and research support within a unique controlled-environment research facility. Students from all academic programs are encouraged to apply, provided they are eligible for the Queen's University Work Study Program.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor plant health and assist with routine plant care activities.
- Observe plants and learn how to recognize and respond to their needs.
- Support daily Phytotron operations, including cleaning, sanitation, watering, and other facility tasks.
- Assist with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) monitoring and implementation.
- Follow established protocols and instructions accurately and safely.
- Assist researchers and staff with plant production and research-related activities.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate issues promptly to supervisors.
- Complete assigned tasks efficiently and on schedule without postponements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
- Work independently when required and collaborate effectively with other team members.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following qualifications:

- Must be eligible for the Queen's University Work Study Program .




- First-year undergraduate students are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated interest in learning about plants, plant care, and greenhouse operations.
- Ability to work 4 to 10 hours per week during the academic year.
- Availability for a multi-term commitment , including weekends and statutory holidays as required.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to arriving on time for all scheduled shifts.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule without unnecessary delays.
- Willingness to learn and follow procedures related to plant care, sanitation, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a research-focused environment.
- Robust attention to detail, responsibility, and a positive attitude toward hands-on work.
- Students from any academic discipline are welcome to apply.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with gardening, plant production, greenhouses, agriculture, biology, environmental sciences, or research activities is an asset but not required.
- Interest in developing practical skills in controlled-environment agriculture and research support.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, follow instructions, and maintain a high standard of work quality.
