Position Overview:

We are seeking a permanent Planning Engineer to join our Distribution Planning Department in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Responsibilities:

- Identify the need for and initiate planning studies for distribution substations and feeders ensuring the continued adequacy of

the system considering safety, feasibility, economics, power flow, loss evaluation, reactive power requirements and system reliability. Prepare technical and economic engineering reports complete with recommendations for system improvements.
- Coordinate and present capital project proposals to the Department Manager, Division Manager, Distribution Technical

Review Committee and the Concept Review Team. Be prepared to defend recommendations from both an Engineering and a financial perspective.
- Collaborate with Major and Key Accounts, Grid Infrastructure Planning, Distribution Design, Station Design and other

stakeholders to ensure facilities are conceptualized,



planned and budgeted for in a timely fashion considering the needs of the involved parties and Manitoba Hydro's customers.
- Provide assistance in the preparation and monitoring of the Capital Budget. Prepare Capital Project Justifications for Capital

Budget approval purposes. Initiate the preparation of Capital Budget single line diagrams for system improvements.
- Provide information, assistance, and advice to other staff, consultants, and manufacturers on issues involving distribution

facilities.
- Represent Manitoba Hydro in coordination of City of Winnipeg development and distribution system planning expansion by

participating in regular joint-initiative meetings.
- Develop and mentor junior staff including engineers and technologists, reviewing their work for technical accuracy and

adequacy.
- Actively participate in committees and working groups to develop formal criteria for the application of distribution planning.
- Maintain contact with the System Control Centre and Operations & Maintenance Departments with respect to operating

conditions and facility requirements.
- Lead and support the evaluation of Non-Wires Solutions (NWS) by working collaboratively with Grid Modernization and Grid

Infrastructure Planning to assess technical, operational, and economic feasibility for addressing system needs.

Qualifications:

- Graduate in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of seven years of related





experience and broad knowledge of electrical distribution system planning.
- Professional member in good standing with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (or willingness and ability to attain within a

specified amount of time).
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Manitoba Hydro electrical distribution system, safety rules and application of

the Distribution Planning Standard
- Capable of devising current methods or modifying or adopting standard principles or practices to new or changing conditions.

- Demonstrated understanding of engineering economic principles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications used for electrical power system studies, such as Cymdist or PSS/E, and

the Distribution eGIS
- Good knowledge of Corporation policies, procedures and regulations.
- Possess a valid Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $52.88-$72.45 Hourly,

$101,332.40-$138,828.30 Annually.
