We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Plant Manager to lead our manufacturing operations and help us scale efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of quality, food safety, and workplace safety.
The Opportunity The Plant Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations and performance of the manufacturing facility. This role will lead production, people, safety, quality, maintenance, inventory flow, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a practical, collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. You are equally comfortable developing people, solving problems on the production floor, analyzing operational data, and holding teams accountable to high standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Lead all day-to-day plant operations to ensure production targets, customer requirements, quality standards, and schedules are consistently achieved.
- Develop and execute production plans in partnership with other cross-functional teams.
- Optimize labour, equipment, materials, and production capacity to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), identify operational gaps, and implement corrective actions.
- Establish and maintain standardized operating procedures and best practices.
- Ensure effective changeovers, downtime management, and production flow.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop production and plant employees, creating a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Build strong frontline leadership through effective supervision, training, performance management, and communication.
- Manage staffing levels, scheduling, onboarding,
and training to support production requirements.
- Foster a positive workplace culture where employees are engaged, respected, and empowered to contribute ideas.
Food Safety & Quality
- Ensure the facility consistently meets all food safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- Partner closely with Quality Assurance to maintain HACCP/GMP programs and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and certifications.
- Establish a robust food safety culture throughout the plant.
- Investigate quality issues, deviations, customer complaints, and non-conformances and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate production, quality, traceability, and compliance records.
Safety & Maintenance
- Own plant-level health and safety performance and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure employees are trained in safe work practices and that policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Develop preventative maintenance programs and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Ensure the facility, equipment, and work areas are maintained to a high standard.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, yield, throughput, quality, and cost.
- Lead Lean Manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
- Use data and operational metrics to drive decision-making and accountability.
- Lead initiatives that support Rawcology's growth and future manufacturing capacity.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in food manufacturing, with experience managing a production facility or significant manufacturing operation.
- Strong understanding of food safety, GMPs, HACCP, quality systems, and manufacturing best practices.
- Proven experience leading and developing frontline teams in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, labour management, maintenance, inventory, and operational KPIs.
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working hands-on in a plant environment and making decisions under pressure.
- Experience with manufacturing performance reporting is an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Operations, Manufacturing, Food Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field is an asset.
