Duration: 8-Month Contract
Location: Toronto or Cambridge, ON
Work Model: Hybrid (approximately 1-2 days onsite per week with flexibility to support both locations)
About Our Client:
Our client is a well-established Canadian organization operating within a regulated industry, recognized for its commitment to operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. With a strong focus on governance, strategic execution, and business transformation, the organization delivers critical programs and initiatives that support long-term growth and organizational success. This opportunity offers the chance to work within a collaborative Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) environment, partnering with business and technology stakeholders to drive portfolio visibility, governance excellence, and effective delivery of business priorities.
About this prospect:
On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced Portfolio Management Consultant to support the day-to-day execution of a Business-As-Usual (BAU) portfolio within an Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) environment.
This is an outcome-focused role responsible for driving portfolio visibility, governance execution, issue resolution, and financial oversight. The successful candidate will serve as the primary escalation point for BAU Project Managers, ensuring delivery quality, removing roadblocks, and independently facilitating established governance forums.
This prospect is ideal for a seasoned portfolio management professional who thrives in both structured and evolving environments, can work effectively with senior stakeholders, and is comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution.
What You’ll Do:
Portfolio & BAU Execution
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the BAU portfolio, ensuring quality, consistency, and successful delivery outcomes.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for BAU Project Managers and proactively address issues and impediments.
- Provide portfolio-level oversight while also supporting hands-on execution activities as required.
- Monitor portfolio health, risks, dependencies, and delivery performance.
Governance & Reporting
- Lead monthly governance forums,
including agenda preparation, stakeholder engagement, meeting facilitation, and communication of outcomes.
- Ensure portfolio reporting is accurate, timely, auditable, and provides meaningful visibility to EPMO leadership.
- Operate within established governance and reporting frameworks while maintaining compliance with organizational standards.
- Support ongoing portfolio transparency through effective reporting and communication practices.
Financial & Planning Support
- Manage portfolio and project financials, working closely with finance and business stakeholders.
- Track budgets, forecasts, resource allocations, and financial performance indicators.
- Identify and address financial risks, inconsistencies, and data quality issues.
- Support annual planning activities and portfolio planning initiatives as priorities evolve.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across business and technology teams.
- Lead portfolio communications, issue management, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Facilitate discussions, resolve conflicts, and drive decisions through influence and collaboration.
- Partner with project teams and leadership to ensure alignment on priorities and objectives.
Team & Operating Model Support
- Coordinate with BAU Project Managers and EPMO leadership to support portfolio execution.
- Provide guidance and direction on portfolio processes, governance requirements, and issue management.
- Drive accountability for outcomes without formal people management responsibilities.
Must Have
- Proven experience in Portfolio Management, Project Management, or PMO leadership roles.
- Strong experience managing Business-As-Usual (BAU) or Run-the-Business portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing portfolio and project financial management activities.
- Experience working within established governance, reporting, and portfolio management frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in both structured and ambiguous environments.
- Experience identifying, escalating, and resolving project and portfolio risks and issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes without formal authority.
- Proficiency with portfolio reporting, planning, and governance activities.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting annual portfolio planning cycles.
- Exposure to post-merger integration or highly complex business environments.
- Experience within insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
- Background working in both large enterprise and smaller organizational environments.
What Success Looks Like
- Governance forums are executed independently and effectively.
- Portfolio reporting provides clear visibility and accurate insights for leadership.
- Portfolio financials are well managed, transparent, and reliable.
- Project Managers have a clear escalation path and receive timely issue resolution support.
- Stakeholder relationships are established quickly and maintained effectively.
