Position OverviewThe Finance Manager is responsible for leading the full finance function within a multi-program, fund-based nonprofit organization. This role combines financial oversight, reporting, compliance, and audit coordination with hands‑on involvement in key accounting areas.The Finance Manager will act as the primary finance lead, overseeing the work of a Bookkeeper (AP/AR and basic records) while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all financial information.Key Responsibilities1. Financial Oversight & Close ManagementOversee and execute month-end and year-end close processesReview journal entries, reconciliations, and financial records prepared by the BookkeeperMaintain general ledger integrity and ensure accurate financial dataStep in on complex accounting areas as required2. Fund Accounting & ComplianceManage accounting across multiple programs and restricted funding streamsEnsure appropriate revenue recognition and expense allocation by fund/programMaintain compliance with funder and regulatory requirements (Ontario Health, Ministry of Health, City of Toronto, CRA, etc.)Oversee deferred revenue, restricted contributions, and capital funding tracking3. Financial ReportingPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsDevelop variance analysis and internal management reportsSupport Board and Finance Committee reportingEnsure consistency and reliability of all financial outputs4. Audit & External ReportingLead audit preparation, including working papers and supporting schedulesAct as the primary liaison with external auditorsCoordinate audit timelines and deliverablesOversee completion of funder and regulatory filings (e.G., T3010, AIR, MIS reporting)5.
Budgeting & ForecastingSupport development of annual budgets across programsMonitor financial performance and investigate variancesPrepare and maintain cash flow forecastsProvide financial insights to support leadership decision-making6. Process, Controls & SupervisionSupervise and review the work of the Bookkeeper (AP/AR, basic accounting)Establish and maintain internal controls and finance policiesDocument and improve finance processes and SOPsIdentify system and process improvement opportunities (e.G., QBO optimization)Working RelationshipsReports to: Executive Director / Senior LeadershipOversees: Bookkeeper (AP/AR and basic accounting)Works with: Program Managers, Board / Finance CommitteeExternal stakeholders: Auditors, funders, regulatorsQualifications & ExperienceCPA designation (or near completion) preferred5–8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experienceExperience in nonprofit / fund accounting strongly preferredExperience supervising junior accounting staff or bookkeepersStrong experience with audit coordination and financial reportingCore CompetenciesStrong technical accounting and review capabilityAbility to balance oversight and hands‑on executionHigh ownership and accountability in a lean environmentStrong attention to detail and analytical skillsEffective communication with both financial and non‑financial stakeholderCompensationSalary Range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually(Commensurate with experience and nonprofit sector alignment)Significant Role NoteThis is a lean finance structure.
